I have a 3 reel Bally In The Money machine that @ a month ago the power supply failed. I replaced the power supply and machine has been working fine until last night when I turned it on and got the 88FF code. What would cause this and can I just do a safe ram clear to resolve the problem?

Code 88 is catastrophic failure that should be cleared up with ram clear if not it could be the MPU Board

Will a low battery cause a catosrofic failure? I thought a low battery code was 81.

This can happen after the battery drops very low in voltage.  First you get an 81 and after it dies more, then you get an 88 .

Thanks for clearing that up for me, it's at my dad's house 4 hours away so I will install a remote battery holder and show him how to do a safe ram clear so if it happens again in the future, he can bring his slot back to life. I have heard of "stay in safe ram clear chips" could I install these in his game to make the task easier in the future?

An 88 can also be caused by component failures on the board.  If it was working one day and 88 code the next, then it may not be the battery..
