Title: M21 Tatung cap blowed up reeeal good
Post by: badbaud on June 26, 2011, 12:01:18 AM
VT7827M21LH chassis.

C331 swelled up, tossed off it's covering and shut down this monitor.

Can't find a schematic for this particular version of Tatung monitor and was hoping someone knew what value this cap used to be or can give me a schematic... or both.

Looked at all of my other Tatung, Electrohome, and Toei schematics and the range of caps for that particular circuit were from 47uF to 150uF so I put in a 150uF 250V cap and the monitor came up with a beautiful picture. That circuit generates a negative voltage off of the FBT, probably for some kind of bias, and I guess if the FBT hiccups the cap gives up it's life.

Anyways, I could still use a schematic of this particular model if anyone can help.

If that cap is off a tap of the flyback, check the diode that rectifies the power. It may be leaking negative voltage which will fry caps.

The diode read fine with a diode checker (out of circuit) and I didn't have a replacement so I left it in.

Here's hoping it's not a leaker under load or the monitor will be back in the shop in a couple of months.
