Title: Bally 5500 error code 54 wont go away!!!!
Post by: AffordableSlots on January 05, 2011, 09:55:00 PM
I have been trying to fix this error 54 for about 2 months now. I have a Bally 5500 proslot with a Blazing 7's game. I know the 54 code is a drop door switch, I have closed the switches...No luck. I have reset the mpu board several times... I have tried swapping out the mpu board with a known good one...No luck. I finally traced the drop door cherry switches to a red and white cable that is not connected to anything. The cable runs to the front of the bill acceptor area. This 5500 is the only machine I have that has this cable, and that is giving me this 54 error. since the cherry switches are connected to this cable, and the cable is not connected to the backplane board... what do I do to get rid of this 54 code?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, any idea's would be appreciated.

I guess the first question in my mind is: did this work for you and just stop working, or did you buy it not working?
Next I would suggest looking at the backplane for connectors that are loose and maybe post a few pics so we can better understand.  How many pins(holes) on the connector?

The drop door switch is for if the machine has a stand with a switch on it's door.  Coind "drop down when the hopper is full into the base/stand.  The switch is connected to the cabinet IO(J7) 40 pin connector at pin 23 I believe.  likely jumped on most machines.  It looks like jumping to ground or pin 27 would do it.

Thanks,
wayne

I bought this machine not working, the wire harness has 6 wires that go to the cherry switches. (3 wires for each switch) and the other end is not connected to anything. I need to find out how to close the wire circuit on the backplane board so the code will go away. I will try to post pics here soon.

Not knowing Ballys much but would make sure the wires are on the correct terminals of the switch
One wire should be a ground and the other run to the backplane so I would double check the wire color against colors on the backplane plug.

Thanks, I traced the wires from the switch and they don't plug into the backplane board, and It doesn't look like any wires are missing connected to the backplane. The wires run from the cherry switch to a 6 pin plug that is located near the front of the bill acceptor. the plug isn't plugged into anything... I don't know where it goes.

The cherry switches may or may not be for anything now that it's out of the casino.  There is a switch that the BV door lock cam pushes when locked, it should be connected.  If you look into the cash box hole in the side of the machine you will see the slot.  If you don't have the lock, you may want to put one in or jump it or trigger it with something.  The switches you mention could be for the casino tracking system to tell them someone opened the door.

Thanks,
Wayne

pin 27 is the common ground that connects to the door switches.

The bv door lock switch is the one that is not hooked to anything... so if I hook one wire to pin 27 then where do I hook the other wires?

Pin 23 on the same Cabinet IO (J7) connector.  I would follow these out from the cabinet IO plug to see where they terminate.  It's possible that they split them to connect to the casino system.

Thanks Wayne,

I did take a look at pin 27, there is a wire there... Instead of tearing out all the wires wrapped in the plastic cover, is there a way I can connect pin 27 to another pin to complete the circuit?

I am not a wiring wiz by no means but... in theory if I connect pin 27(drop door ground) and pin 23 (drop door) that should complete the circuit?
