Have you tried doing a player switch test, I would think it would have one.
Only a suggestion.

Input test related to the player buttons/switches to test if they are all working properly.
Like the IGT S+ or S2000 has to test the player switches.
I am not sure if the 5500 has it or not.

Foster I have a bunch of 5500 and I just don't remember how to do the test. CRS It's to late to start reading tonight. The one part here I don't understand is he drops one coin in and it shows 3 credits. I changed a couple of machines from tournament to coin only and was no big deal. A couple of wires from the tournament reset switch to mother board, and the wire from the tray to the display.

since I uplugged the one wire plug off the front of the mpu it now show 1,2,& then 3 coins as they drop in but still won't play when I hit the spin or any other button. the buttons are good I'm pretty sure i used them to set the prefferences.

I don't think this will help but unplug the display that's on top of the machine, and you should have two reset switches, one jackpot and the other one is tournament reset switch. pull one wire off each one of them, we can figure out later which one is jackpot and hook it back up.

I almost sounds like his spin button switch is okay, but it doesn't "play" the bet.
He used the spin button to set options.

We need to see if you can get the reels to spin by using the "Service Credit" button
on the coin in optics board like Buzz suggested earlier.

With the door open, press the little button on the small board where the
coins fall through under the coin comparitor.
Each push of that "Service Credit" button will give you 1 credit.
The most you can put on is 3 credits because you have a 3 credit game.
After you put the 3 credits on the "Service Button"- hit the Spin" button on the deck.
The reels SHOULD spin like a normal game!

If the reels spin,  then your machine is STILL somehow still stuck in tournament mode.
You will have to go back into the settings and using the sheets I uploaded earlier - make sure
anything tournament related is turned to the off positions.

Awesome!...FYI that double wire you hooked up?
That was a continuous ground for the switches.
Runs/links the ground wire from switch to switch.
If you look carefully, there's another double wire going from bulb to bulb!

Ok that makes sence,, If I could pick your brain again the game is working good but is there a way to change the payback odds its winning way to much it hit 5 jackpots in less than 20 mins. I set the max credits to 9999 and I've had to reset it 3 times in less than an hour. if this was at a casino I'd be rich lol..

And the security goons would be beating the crap outta ya in the basement somewhere...lol
Just kiddin'
Hey! Is it still in tourney mode?
Or did ya turn off all the options that had anything to do with tournament?
That's too many jackpots really...that's why I'm suspecting that's it may be still be configured as a tournament chip.

I would like you to go into the "Submit a New File" section of NLG and download yourself a copy of the Bally 5500 Manual.
Print it out (make sure you have full inks in your printer) and throw the whole thing in a binder and start reading it from page 1 to the end.
It's almost long as "War and Peace" but it will a Chock Full O' Nuts of info for your machine!

Here's a link to that section...the manual is near the bottom.

Open the door and press the test ( left ) button on the MPU tray one time, with the door still open look at the credit display on the door first set of numbers are the game number second and third set of numbers are the percentages. Let us know what they are. Bally doesn't use a tournament chip like IGT that I know of.  ( been wrong before )
