I have a question that's been bothering me.
I checked the voltages coming out of a Mikohn power supply.
The one in question has the larger 12-pin AMP outlet connector.
Inside are 3 connectors going to the board.
Each connector has 4 wires. (Red,Purple,Black,Yellow)
With a multimeter ground common lead going to the black wire, and the other red lead going to the red wire: I get -12Vdc.
With a multimeter ground common lead going to the black wire, and the other red lead going to the purple wire: I get +12Vdc.
With a multimeter ground common lead going to the black wire, and the other red lead going to the yellow wire: I get +5Vdc.

Am I reading/checking for output voltages correctly? Scratch Head 2
Should I reverse my multimeter leads to get a different polarity?

Finally, does anyone know what the apparent needs for a +5Vdc and -12Vdc for with a Mikohn Power Supply?
So far, I haven't found anything that a Mikohn uses that needs these particular power sources. Scratch Head 3

Thank you for any help you can give me on this. yes

Not sure how you're getting -12v, but if you look at teh Supreme manual, J1 on the controller is 5v, J2 is 12v.

Keep in mind, that power supply board is probably not manufactured by Mikohn. most companies outsource generic boards like power supplies, and those voltages are pretty stadard for power supplies.

<edit>

Found the pinout for the Mikohn power suppy, note the lack of wires connected to the -12v row:

Guess I got you started on this one. Test it correctly (or say incorrectly) you can get your meter to read 17 volts Scratch Head. I wasn't dreaming that up sleep

I know... rotflmao
The only way I can possibly get +17Vdc is to put the multimeter on a red and purple wire.
I get a -17Vdc if the multimeter is on the red and yellow wires.

I thought the red and black were supposed to be +12Vdc if when using a multimeter,
you stick the common lead on black and the red lead on red?
The picture brichter is showing from the supreme manual contradicts that.

Notice my power supply shows purple on top row. Yellow on second row.
Black in 3rd row and red on the bottom row.

120 volts feeding (4) 15,000 volt 30Ma Neon Sign transformers hooked up in parellel for 120Ma. Stepped up thru 64 Capicitors dual spark gap and 15 turn primary winding to a 1600 turn secondary winding. Estimate stats put it a aouut 1.3 million volts output.  Not sure how many jiggi-watts Scratch Head Longest spark to date is 74 inches to a grounding rod.

Let me guess, do you have a Faraday cage in your basement?  Crazy bust gut laughing bust gut laughing bust gut laughing

Seriously, it looks like a WardLabs DRSSTC. Did you scrounge the parts yourself or buy them as a kit?

Hmm, Mikohn power supplies to Tesla Coils... interesting tangent.

Now we just need to figure out how to get the arcs to display the progressive amount...

Stayouttadabunker was that a custom? Did you have to make your own capacitors? I've see those were guys had to build there own caps using 5 gallon buckets as the case. Is the EMP noticeable, (does it ruin all your neighbors TV, cell and radio reception when its on)? Tesla was the man...

The coolest this about Tesla coils is the Electro Magnetic Pulse it throws out as a byproduct. Be careful that will kill your Cell phones or any other small circuitry that is not shielded. I'm not sure of the range of the EMP coming out of one that size but I would imagine 15-20 feet or so. That's not an easy thing to measure though. I know you can't have one of those that's over 6 foot tall near an airport, the FAA will get pissed over the EMP threat. Fun stuff.

A buddy of mine made one in highschool. He used an Iron Shotput at the top.
It was cool that you could draw a spark out with your finger to about 3ft.
It left a little black mark but other than a slight buzzing sensation didn't hurt.
