I have a GQ-4x and I'm trying to program a 27c4002 chip.

When I select that device the little window shows that an adapter is needed.  Why? the chip fits in the programmer?

I'm guessing that it doesn't work because I've baked these chips for over 30 minutes and they are still not reading blank.  hissy fit hissy fit

any ideas??

I had similar problem with other proms - if the prom is bad you will get that message -  see if the programmer IDs the prom - check a known good prom and see if that one IDs.

I bought 10 new ones and they all read the same.   I have put in a known good 4002 chip and I can read it  -  It looks like it reads it but I have know way of knowing if what I'm looking at is garbage or not.

When I try to ID - I get that it's not supported on this device.    But I've gotten this many times before.

Thanks! I'm upgrading to 5 now.  I was using 3.03 if that makes a difference.  Scratch Head

Hey Munch,

I have that same burner but ended up getting the kit of adapters with it
and for the 4002 I have to use the ADP-O55 for it to work.

The kit also had adapters for plcc stuff too
for my spectrum's Think I paid $119.00 for the burner Full pack  kit with adapters

Munch,

You will need this adapter to use for the 27c4002 e-prom. Although your programmer has the correct socket on it you need the adapter because it has chips on it that change the alogrithm to make it able to read and write to the 27c4002 e-prom.

Munch,

Not usually too long. I believe they also make another adapter that you can use in place of the one I pictured. I believe the number is an adapter number 15 which you can view at mcumall.com but not too sure on that you may want to give them a call to verify. The phone number is listed on the site. I bought mine direct from them and it shipped from Canada quickly.

I believe you will be ok with that also. Just not as easy to pull chips in and out of since it doesn't have the zif socket (zero insertion force) with the lever.

Munch, although you probably figured it out by now, the reason that you need the adapter is because they are 16 bit chips. You can program 40-pin 8 bit chips without the adapter (although I don't know of any).

I'll have to get one of those adapters myself one of these days. I keep putting it off since I don't really need it yet for the machines that I have.

Try looking at the adapters page again as they used to have a few different types of adapters that did the 16 bit chips... Call them also as they are very helpful as well. Maybe they have one adapter in, but the other adapter is out of stock??

Thank you all for the help.    Stout That's the funnest thing I've seen in a long time!  lol

I'll let everyone know when the adapter arrives.  It was $15 no shipping - it beats the mcumall's $29 (055board) with shipping or $39 (054board).    $30 is a lot for something that I may not use that often.

Things that I have ordered from Hong Kong generally arrive in 10 business days, but you're on the wrong coast!  rotflmao rotflmao Add whatever time it takes to get from the west coast to the east coast -- probably another 5 business days -- in short, three weeks.
