Turned this machine on and it went through a fairly long boot up process then stopped booting and came up with these messages. Any ideas to what I can start checking for?

Thanks,

David

Had it been working before or did you just get it? I would check top box CPU CMOS battery first if it's been working and quit

Just got it, is the top box battery a coin type that slides in or the green battery type that has to be soldered in?

Will it have to be soldered onto the board?

Just changed the 2032 battery inside the top box computer it was dead. Turned the game back on and it went through the boot up process and it halted at the screen below and I am still getting the COMM error message in the display. Anything else I could check for?

So you just decided to change out the kit from something else to Bucks Ahoy?  I bet you didn't change out the BIOS chip did you?

Also, if the battery was dead then all the settings were lost and you have to hook up a keyboard to the monitory to set it up.  Otherwise, it will not boot.

No, this machine has always been a Buck's Ahoy, so everything should be as it was before. Other than the time and date (which I just did), are there any other settings I will need to change from the keyboard in the BIOS settings?

You shouldn't have to do anything in the bios. the only thing it may have lost is the current date. not important, but you need to check the MPU batts. if one or both are dead you'll get the comm error. when you 1st turn on do you see the "reel touch finger"in the middle of the screen or the "energy star" logo in the right corner

Well, your messages are confusing.  Earlier you said you just got the game. The battery also holds the settings for the boot process.  You need to reset them.

My 1st reply to cowboy said I just got the game, the previous owner said it had always been a Buck's Ahoy, it had been sitting powered down for some time, that's the way I recieved the machine, what other bios settings will I need to change? Will I need to reset factory defaults? If I was confusing with my wording, I apologize.

Looking at the photo you posted if it's stuck in that DIG ................... then there is a problem with the files on the HD.   Normally you don't see DIG and SIG unless you have a NJ version chip.

The fact that this machine was supposedly working before suggests that the files on the HD are messed up if it locks up at that point in your photo.  What SB and SG chips are you using?

David,  the hard drive is looking for correct sb/sg as discuscussed.  At that point clear,re-set and as jeff had said have keyboard installed to restore factory defaults.  Once all that Syncs up you will have diff. results.  -Peg.

I am now getting a "protocol mismatch" will I need to use a clear chip to resolve this? If so, can I use the same clear chip I always use on my S2000 machines?

Unless I missed it, you never stated what board ie: 504, ect you have. And what Sb and what SG chip set you are running. A clear ivc97 or 224 will work if it is a 502, 503 or 504. If you have enhanced might need something else, but doughtful you have anything other than a 504 in a reel touch.

Ivc0097 or ivc0224 will work if you need to do a clear.
