Title: Universal Ultra - Double Marquis - help
Post by: tcarp on March 04, 2012, 04:45:57 AM
I just recently purchased a 1995 Ultra Double Marquis machine. Top lights up but shows nothing where the errors codes should be. I was told that all it needs is a meter reader/jackpot reset switch. Will the machine work without that switch? From what I have read on other posts, that switch doesn't have to be there. Is there a manual for this machine? I have seen one for the older year ('80's) machines but haven't been able to find one for a '95. Any help would be appreciated..

You do not need the jackpot switch on an ultra.   With the machine powered on, door open and main board door open do you see 4 LEDs?  See picture.  What are they doing?  Have you performed a reset?  To reset, have the power switch off and gently hold down the 3 buttons and power it on.  Hold the button until the the LEDs flash a couple times and let go.  Hopefull the machine will not work if not report back what the LEDs are doing.

If there is no display on the meters then try reseating the board first. A bad connection between board and backplane is by far the most common problem with the Ultra Series. If, after several resets that doesn't work, then check the large grey ribbon cable that connects from the door to the backplane. Make sure it is snapped in and both ends.
There is no real manual for the Ultra.

CN17 is unused in your case.  It is either casino communication or progressive.  So that is not your issue.     You say the leds don't light up are you talking the display LEDs or the 4 little ones on the main board?   You did ram clear but did you remove and replace the main board?

When I first started in this hobby I started with a machine doing about what yours is.  This link has some very useful info that uniman helped me out with.  http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=13759.0

Read this one as well  http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=1292.0

Well glad to hear that plug is not needed because I couldn't find anywhere it would go. I am talking about the 4 little LED lights on the MPU, well and the door for that matter, but if I have no little lights on I won't have door lights, right?  I have checked for corrosion, I will pull it and check some more. I noticed that other pictures have a door in front of the MPU that locks..the door is missing on this unit, maybe some of my problem?

The 4 LED lights will blink if the machine can run.  I wouldn't worry about anything else until you see them blink i.e door switches etc.  They can and will blink with the door open when you do a ram clear.  Are you sure the board is fully seated.  Sometimes they feel seated and aren't.  How does the battery on the main board look?  Any leakage on the circuit board?  Do you have a DVOM to check the battery voltage?  One of mine had a dead  and leaking battery that needed a battery trace fixed.  Have you checked the fuses at all?  Does anything light up at all?  The back lights will come on even if the mpu is not in.  You will not have display LEDs if the 4 little lights are not on but you should have the light behind pay table and belly glass come on.

jbshocks is correct, the plug and cables hanging in your pic can be disconnected and removed from machine. Used for casino communication.
Your leds on the MPU is the big concern. Maybe you can pull the board and get a good pic of it. The battery is the first place to look. Like jbshocks said, look for acid corrosion from the battery.
