Title: Member's Pets
Post by: CaptainHappy on March 17, 2010, 09:52:56 AM
Hey there Folks,

Sorry that I have not been on the site for a little while. Since I couldn't sleep I thought that I would share this with you all since so many of you are so Pet Friendly, and have seen and enjoyed the pictures that I have shared in the past of my Sister's "Lap" dogs Angel and Jasper that live with her and my Mom back in Sparks. I refer to them as my NIECE and NEPHEW!

It is with sad regret that I have to tell you all that Angel passed away yesterday morning. Early in the morning after I had just gotten back from my weekend getaway to visit Buzz, Stat and ashyron, I was awoken with a troubling phone call from my Mom and Sister in clear distress and extreme sadness because Angel had just died. She was a little ill the previous evening with stomach ache and she was just up and down restless. She was drinking alot of water that she later threw up. I was checking in on her on my drive home and she was a little restless but cuddly as usual. Then suddenly in the morning she got up and walked uneasily over by my Mom and layed down, tried her best to wag her tail and lift her head up and gasped a bit and died. I was in shock as everything happened so suddenly and Angel was only 7 or 8 years old! :8- I felt so helpless as there was nothing that I could do since they are over 600 miles away. Additionally my mom can't lift Angel, nor could my Sister, Kymberly, as she just had major surgery just last week and is home recovering. Angel was around 75 pounds, and got on your lap like she was a little lap dog that weighs 10 lbs. I tried to call a friend up there to see if he could go move her for them, but I couldn't reach him right away. We were able to arrange for a animal service that comes and takes care of this for you.

We have no idea what happened, but at least it happened relatively quickly as compared to a long and drawn out painful sickness. I have to believe that things happen for a reason, but it was just so shocking and surprising to us to get hit with this so unexpectedly. Poor Jasper will be lonley as he was a puppy when we got him and he grew up with Angel. I thought that I would share a few of my favorite pictures her. The first two are of one of my favorite days with Angel and my Sister on my boat when Angel was pretty young, and Jasper was not in the picture yet. Sorry for the bad news.

Angel loved sticks logs and braches of all kinds to play with and chew on, but she did it "Bigger" than most dogs do!!! Here are a couple of my favorites...

My condolences to you , we have 5 cats here. I was told that larger dogs only live to about 7 or 8. It's the smaller dogs that live longer. But I thing John toomanynumbers, the Rudy's Deals guy loved his dog also and that it passed about 6 months ago? (I don't really know). But his dog's face appears in everything he has on the website. I know what it is to lose pets, it sucks!

Our pets make this world a little more enjoyable. They seem to know things about us we don't realize. They know
when you are sick, they know how to pull your string, they know how to make you give in. So many things they do
to make us smile. You can not measure the grief from a loss of a pet. They are truly a part of the family. I am sincerely
sorry to hear of your loss of Angel.

And as you said the only good thing Angel did not suffer to long.

Ron (r273)

These two "Bark-O-Matics" are specially trained to take burglars down at the ankles!
One of them like to play pinball and likes solitare on the computer...smart doggies..

The best thing to do Capt, is get another puppy for Jasper to play with.
Jasper will be considered the old dog now!
She needs a playmate...

I swear I saw a horse cry once when the older one died.
We ended up getting another pony and and now both
Thunder and Lightning are happier than two peas in a pod!

Mark....sorry to hear about the loss.  I had to put down Ottie who had been with me for 19 years recently so I feel your pain.  I come from a big family of pet lovers in fact my Mom ran her own pet sitting service for 20+ years.  LOL...I can remember at one time growing up we had 8 cats, 2 dogs, and yessir....2 possums that lived in the garage.

Pics below of one of my current companions, Maximus or Max for short.  He's a Maincoon which are famous for being quite large where a standard cat might be 10 to 12 pounds he weighs in at a womping 26 pounds.  The thing is that he is all muscle....don't mess with the Max!!!  You can see his mass when comparing his proportions to my wife who is average build.  He was originally bred back in the Mayflower days to keep the rats on the ships at bay.  Max has been great at that as we live in a rural area and we always find him with mice in the spring and fall....LOL....he likes to pick them up in his mouth and fling them at the walls.  He's a good little kitty that earns his keep.

Mark.  That's terrible news and I am so sorry to hear that.  As you know we only have a couple animals left.

I had to put my dog down about 5 years ago when he kept having siezures, he was 16 years old.  I had to put Dad's dog down last September and he was 20 years old.  The cat and bird belong to my brother and thank goodness cause that bird is a hately little thing.  I think you probably realized that when you were here.   :5-

Anyway, here are a couple pics of the b1rd.  His name is Maynard and he is 27 years old.  Sometimes we call him Stinky.  The second pic  is after he decided to bathe.

And here's Corky the cat.  He's 13 this past December and is pretty lazy.  He's got it made and hates being outside.  It freaks him out.  Did you know that 98% of orange cats are male?

I love the second pic!! :72-

:97- :97- :97- :97-  That is kind of what it looks like huh??  Actually, he covers his nose all the time when he is cold.  It's his way of staying warm.  Ya know I am not much of a cat person, I am a dog lover myself, but Corky is the coolest cat.  He loves to play and rough house and the more you terrorize him the more fun he has.  He has been known to get so excited during playtime that he hisses and runs off and then comes back to finish.  HAHA

Sorry for your loss. I feel your pain. It took my family awhile to get over the loss of our Ginger. She was a 12 year old Pom and had been suffering so, she went on to a better place. Here is a picture a year before she became sick.
Now we have had Wriglee for 2 years. He is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel  = stinker.....

Mark, so sorry for your loss. Me and Abby(my avatar) send our condolences. How unfortunate we get so little time to provide a good life for a creature that so appreciates everything we do for them. Abby just turned 2 a few days ago and I am not looking forward to the day when I won't be able to spoil her anymore.

Thanks everyone for their well wishes! It has been really tough on my sister! She just called again a few minutes ago and told me that Jasper has been sad, and that every so often he goes and looks around everywhere for Angel, then sits at the front door and whimpers! :8- :8- :8- It kills me! We had expected to get at least 13-15 years out of Angel. It is hard for me because I do not live with them all of the time, but they love me that much more when I come to visit. I should figure out how to get some videos onto the computer from DVDs that I made to post here so you can see how excited they would get when I sneak in the garage to try to surprise them after being away for a few months. They usually dog pile on me after knocking me down on the couch and then they crawl all over me lick attacking me for a long while.

Angel was very vocal and she would listen to me on the phone and she would talk back over the phone, and we would "talk" back and forth for a while! She definately recognized my voice, and I was forbidden from leaving messages on the home answering machine as the dogs usually went crazy after hearing me leave a message. I was not there to clean up the mess that they made. HA HA! :97-  My friends thought that I am crazy!  :200- :200- :200- I was just last week considering getting a webcam to set up and see how she would react. My Mom was afraid that they would go after the TV if they saw me in it! When they watch TV and see dogs on it they get up and bark and run at the TV.... When the dogs are off the TV they start looking around everywhere for the dogs that they saw. The TV is on the wall by the stairs, so they would go up the stairs looking for the TV dogs there! :103- :103- :103-

It is nice seeing everyone post their beloved animals! Thanks for sharing! :244- :244- :244- K+ to all here!!!!! That is why I started this thread and called it "MEMBER'S PETS" I felt so bad when I heard about when you guys had lost your pets, and I saw that you got comfort in hearing from other pet lovers, so now we have a thread to show off our little friends!! Hopefully more of the good than the bad! I like seeing amazonian sized cats, Birds that scared me and begged for some of my pizza, and dogs getting ice cubes, and the like! I like all kinds of animals, and I think that they know it and have me pegged as a sucker! They know that they can get treats, love and attention out of me.! :89- :89- :89-

Thanks again folks! :244- :3- :244-

Mark, sorry to hear about Angel. I had to put down my last dog about 10 years ago, still sad to this day when I remember him.

My place is too small for a pet, so here's my Mom's dog, Mac. I take him to the park and run the heck out of him a few times a week. He starts bouncing off the walls when he hears my truck pull up, and when she opens the door he's in the back of the truck immediately, unless the door is open in which case he's on the passenger seat.  :97-

This pose is the one he's in any time I come over to visit, he's just patiently waiting for me to tell him it's time to go!

Mark, I think you had a good idea about members posting pics of their pets. :3- :3-  I'm surprised to see there aren't more exotic animal pictures. :103-  I would have posted a picture of Peanuts but I don't own a picture of him. :60-  He was a Spider Monkey we had when I was a kid.  I don't think pictures exist of him.  :47- It still breaks my heart :8- to see pictures of my dog or Dad's dog but they were great animals.

:99- So does anyone own anything exotic?  I know Buzz has a bunch of wild rabbits on his land but I don't think that counts. :97- :97-

Mark, sorry to hear about your lose.
Last May I lost my Basset Hound named Jenny. Her partner Millie was lost in Oct 2008. Both dogs were thirteen. Millie died of heart failure and Jenny cancer. I've had dogs all my life but never had a dog touched my heart like Millie did.
She was really something special. So glad I was lucky enough to enjoy the thirteen years we had together!  :89-   Great memories!!!

Now, as you can see on my avatar, we have Nataile, a French Bulldog. A real comical dog.  :200-
Life goes on......

Here's one more of Millie, Jenny, and Mrs. Uniman at "The Basset Hound Waddle" in Birmingham, MI several years ago.
The Waddle raises money for Basset Hound rescue. Hundreds of Bassets parade down mainstreet in junction with a town parade.
Great times!

It is never easy to loose a loved one. Here is a copy of the story my vet sent me when I had to put my favorite lab down due to cancer. It still hurts to this day. My prayrs are with you in this time of sadness.

Tom

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together

Tribute To A Best Friend

Sunlight streams through window pane onto a spot on the floor...then I remember,it's where you used to lie, but now you are no more.

Our feet walk down a hall of carpet and muted echoes sound....then I remember, It's where your paws would joyously abound

A voice is heard along the road, and up beyond the hill then I remember it can't be yours....your golden voice is still.

But I'll take that vacant spot of floor and empty muted hall and lay them with the absent voice and unused dish along the wall

I'll wrap these treasured memorials in a blanket of my love and keep them for my best friend until we meet above.

Well here is the Mans Best Friend I had in Prague, he went to a great home with a girlfriend included, not forgotten, but due to the slots business I am in, you have to make sacrifices. I used to sacrifice the wife but am getting to old to replace that "need" in life.

Well, as all pet owners know in the back of their mind, the day will come to say goodbye. Sunday was such a day for me. I had to say goodbye to Sable, my female Akita that I have had from 6 weeks old. My wife called me at work and said Sable had thrown up her food and just couldn't seem to get comfortable. When I got home, I noticed she was lethargic and dry heaving, so we rushed her to the emergency vet. After an exam and x-rays, it was as I feared, bloat, her stomach had twisted inside. My girl never complained once in her life, no yelps of pain, but she was whining on the gurney and that was even after they gave her pain medication and eleviated the gas buildup in her stomach. I had hoped for her to pass in her sleep, comfortably, because with her being such a loving part of the family, she had earned that in my book. Alas, it was not to be. Knowing her age and declining health, I made the decision all owners dread, I would have to make her pain go away the only way possible. My wife and daughter, with whom she grew up with were there as well. We gave her comfort and love and as I stroked her head and whispered loving statements, I saw her light fade away as the doctor gave her the injection. The take charge man I was turned into a babbling infant the second she was gone. I would be remiss not to say how great a member of the family she was and her instinct, intuition, calmness and unconditional love was a joy to experience. My Sable girl, I miss you and will always love you. With all my heart I hope we will see each other again when the time comes.

Well you are not alone. I feel your loss/grief as we too lost a 4 legged family member. On 02/03/2014 we had to "put down" Bentley. He was a fantastic Pembroke welsh Corgi I got when he was 12 weeks old. He was 14 years and made it to Hawaii and back.Bentley was the kind of companion that would not let you out of his sight. He slept on our beds, got scrambled eggs on the weekend, went to the store with us.
Bentley was always willing to play when you wanted to, or be at your side if you felt like shit, somehow he seemed to know and always did the right thing.
Dogs can't TELL you when they feel bad or in pain, they just suck it up and keep going. us humans are clueless unless we know our animals very well.
Bentley's final blow was a really NASTY fungal infection in his nose.We tried everything, Anti-Fungal meds, Anti-biotics, Anti-Inflammatorys.We made progress, we battled this for 5 months. It got to the point where he would sneeze and start bleeding all over the place, his face swelled up....he was in pain and miserable. He would lose so much blood he would sleep for 2 days.On the last day he would not eat or drink...we all knew it was "That day". At the vet I held him until they said he is gone....
14 years, the perfect dog, faithful, loving and smart.I still miss my buddy. At least we were with him as he crossed the rainbow bridge....

But wait....there is some good news...
A few days after we had to say goodbye to Bentley, my wife checks on Craigslist for Corgis...
She sees one in Temple City California....he is ADORABLE!!! and 8 weeks old.
We call the people that have him, tell them to hold him for us..were driving down from Las Vegas, they think were nuts.
We explained what had happened, they completely understand.
Now I don't want anyone to think you can "Replace" a pet....that simply doesnt happen. They have personalities just like us and no two are alike.
Bentley will live on forever in my heart, never to be forgotten. But there was now a HUGE void in the household.
Introducing "Yoda" the 2 month old Male Pembroke Welsh Corgi.....The love affair starts all over again.

I feel very bad for your loss Dan but you had to make the decision and do the hardest thing a person has to do concerning either a pet or human. It is just the correct thing to do when they are probably not going to get better. You will always remember the great friendship she brought to you and all your family and for being such a good friend to you and your other pup... again I am so sorry for your loss and hope you find peace in knowing she is not suffering even though I know you will miss her so much

Sorry for your loss Dan.  It's tough losing a pet, they really do become a member of your family.  Our dog was 14 when we lost her a few years back.  She had been with us from my first duty station in the Air Force until my retirement.  Still miss her.  Wish I had some had some words of wisdom that could ease your pain.  You will always have the fond memories to treasure forever.  My condolences to you and your family.

Thanks, guys. You know the head thinks differently than the heart, so I have to just ride out the grieving process.
Yes, Cowboy she was damn beautiful and very much a lady, as you can see from the crossed front legs (always did that) and no black mask and ears for her, no way, she had black around the eyes like eyeliner! Of course we named her when we got her and the first picture can explain why we named her Sable, no she wasn't having any of it and after her first year changed to fawn.I've had several Akitas (favorite breed) but she was my only female and the difference in attitude and temperment was definitely different from my males.

This was December 2013 at HomeDepot in Kailua-Kona Hawaii. We were shopping for Christmas decorations.
The war was on, but he didnt show it, no one but us really knew. He tried hard, we tried hard.
He went downhill VERY fast.I was a complete trainwreck, one minute angry, the next sad, feeling ripped off and helpless to help my best friend at his time in need.
His mind was still sharp, trust me he KNEW what was going on, he knew he was in serious trouble, he knew I was right by his side.We will see each other again.
Be there for them, they worship you and understand a LOT more than people realize, they ask for little...so please..be thre for them, do something nice for yours....while you can.

Thanks...and best wishes Dan.It takes a while, hurts like hell and just when i think I'm OK.it hits again.Yoda has been a wonderful distraction.
I see so many things in him that remind me of all the good times Bentley and I had, he make me feel a lot better and while I'm not a "Religious" man I somehow feel Bentley has some kind of a part in this.
Look up "The Rainbow Bridge"  it may make you feel a lot better about our 4 legged family members, past and present.
Yoda getting "Spoiled" as he prefers our bed to his.He stays all night, no mess, no accidents and doesnt chew up anything. He wakes us up when he wants to go out for a "potty" break....smart for less than 3 months old.

Kirk, I am very sorry for your loss. Both of your babies were sweethearts and I know how much Bentley meant to you and Annette. I hope your new member of the family is getting along with the old one.

My condolences to you and your family as well, Dan. Most of us here have been through what you're going through and there are no simple words or quick paths that can heal. Only time can do that. It's a hard decision that every pet owner has to make, but it's a small price to pay for all the years of love and companionship that we get from our four legged family members.

One of my babies has lymphoma and I thought I was going to lose him last year. The vet had given him three to four months. It turned out that the time frame was an overall average that no cat ever meets because they either pass very quickly or go into remission, and there's no way to predict. We got lucky. He responded well to the medication and he's doing much better than he was nine months ago. Even so, the cancer is still there and I have to prepare for the day when I'll lose him. He's sitting on my lap purring right now, actually.

That story touched my heart, tacman.  :280-   We too will be going thru this same thing with our sweet Muffy. She is now 13, diabetic with two shots a day, almost completely blind, skin allergies (scratches a lot no matter what you use on her), eye allergies, eyes are itchy a lot  (we  use Bausch + Loms  doggy eye drops). Has had 2 bouts of pancreidas. In spite of all this she still gets around the whole house, eats well, (but has to be hand feed sometimes so she can get her shots on time) goes outside when it's time. She knows everyone by smell. She sits up a begs for treats when she knows it's someone not living here. I know she has no real life but we can not let her go, not yet.  :60- :8-

I still have her four legged soil mate (Blondie) and he is getting
spoiled rotten in his old age.

Kirk sorry for the loss of your Bentley and Dan for the loss of Sable.
Such sad stories but try to remember the good times. I myself have been through the tough decisions many times and it never gets easier. For me I found comfort is knowing that the suffering had ended and soon after I only remember the good times.
For me and my wife they are our children. I believe it's one reason I still play with these slot machines since I have never had to grow up and take care of my own children. Like it was stated before, they have their own personalities but at times I find myself calling them by the wrong name. I'm sure that's just the old age and the CRS  :5-
Our newest is Bentley and he has liver issues from birth. We did the foster care thing for him and have now adopted him. To provide a fighting chance for a longer life we just sent him for surgery for around 6K I keep telling my wife at least we don't have to pay for collage for him.  :200-
Hoping he lives a prolonged life, but I already know he will pass eventually of liver failure so we just enjoy each day and love him more.

Ron,

We've been dealing with simular issues since our pooch was 3 (now 11). If you haven't tried "Dinovite" it's worth a try. we also bath with "Miconizole" shampoo from "Davis". they both are great for the skin issues. Hope this helps.

Kirk and Dan you have my sympathy. Losing a pet is tough. Kirk, glad to see you started a new chapter in life with Yoda.

My wife and her sister take time to visit the Nevada NSPCA dog shelter in Vegas. There they interact with and walk the small dogs who spend months there, sometimes they never leave. I encourage anyone looking for a new dog or cat to visit your local shelter and look there. So many nice pets without homes.

Our spoiled French Bulldog needed a buddy to teach her some social skills. The Mrs. brought home an older Chihuahua we named Jerry. He puts up with alota crap from the overbearing bulldog, but their still buddies.

Ohiogaming, your horses are beautiful! I once trained harness race horses (Standardbreds) and your pics remind me of them. My first race horse I kept until I moved to Nevada at which time I boarded him back in Mich. He passed on at the age of 32 years. Lot of great memories with that horse!
