Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall someone saying that the Bally EM hoppers and that chunk of stuff behind the top glass (stepper unit, progressives, and such?) can be extended with "extension cables" made to run the machine while those two clusters are sitting on your bench instead of installed in the machine.  Does anyone know where one could obtain pre-made jumper cables like these?  Or are they pretty much a do-it-yourself situation?

I wonder if one can find these pre-made?  Or do I have to simply start soldering...

Considering you're talking about a Bally Em machine, I'd say...start soldering.
Have you tried getting a hold of NLG's Foxxslots?
He has extensive Bally Em experience and parts ( possible harness you need) on hand?

Good day to the group. I am a new member with a Bally 809 5 coin multiply unit. A coil burnt out in the feature unit and after replacing it now it will only play one quarter at a time. Long story short I am also looking at where I can get the Beau plugs to make an extension cable.

the extension cables that I have are around 6 ft.     I have two types,  factory type (black cable)  and ones that I made  (grey )  three type of plug ends   18 pin,  24 pin  and  30  pin.  figure out what one you need and start soldering.  use stranded wire,   using solid wire will tend to break after flexing.       Jim

If you remove the 4 screws holding the light board to the top unit assembly, you can gently lower it and watch what's going on in the top unit. Also, you can then put a spudge in there to see what you can do by closing various switches.  Good luck and don't ground yourself to machine....

Use a Popsicle stick with a pointy end...
Use it to gently push open or close points, or to hold down armatures of the coils.
Or lift contacts.
But beware, it's noisy up there.
And don't leave any of the coils on too long or that magic smoke gets out.
