Here...read this...same issue of Coin In Jam...

http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=5622.msg49084#msg49084

And I won't even mention the fact I said this already....  Tongue Out

The only time he had a coin-in jam error was when he pressed the pseudo coin button on the coin-in optics, which I believe would be expected since the machine knows that the door is opened yet it believes that somehow a coin was still accepted.

"Closure" is not an error message.  It indicates that a door was previously opened, and has now been closed.  The message will vanish (and the candle should stop rapidly blinking) once a paid game has been played and completed.  As long as there are no "Door Open" messages, you're good to go.

Skip checking the MPU battery voltage, too.  It's fine -- you don't have any error messages.  As thegambler327 said, since you can choose games with the screen or the physical buttons, the doors are being correctly sensed as closed, and the machine is ready to be played.  You're just at the point where you can't convince it to take money.

What exactly happens when you attempt to put a nickel in the slot?  You said "it won't take it", but what does that mean?  Does the coin get jammed?  Is it rejected and falling through to the tray (back to the player), or is it going into the hopper but not adding credit to the machine?

Assuming for the moment that it's rejecting the coins back to the player, please do the following:

- Remove and re-insert the sample coin in the comparator.  Make sure it's seating properly -- use your S+ as a reference as to how the coin should be sitting in the comparator.

- Adjust the sensitivity of the comparator to make it less likely to reject coins.  Here's a post on how to do that.

Next, the bill validator:

What exactly is the bill validator doing or not doing?  You said it cycles -- are you just talking about when you power it on?  Does its power-on cycle sound similar to your S+ machine, or does it sound like it's taking an extra long time going through the cycles when you first turn it on?  Did you do as Roz suggested and remove and then re-insert the cash can firmly?  Does the validator cycle when you remove and/or re-insert the cash can?  Does the machine attempt to take bills and reject them, or does it never even try to take the bill in?

Since we're not there to see what the machine is doing or not doing, you're going to have to give us as many details as possible, please.

Of note, since you mentioned it, when you push the white self-test button near the MPU board, you'll see a menu that appears very similar to the attendant menu (the one that is accessed by simply turning the jackpot reset key with the door closed).  However, there are a few more options only available from the self-test menu (look closely and you'll see the extra options).  Of further note, there are certain settings that can only be accessed with a keychip procedure, and are not available by simply pressing the self-test button.  You should not need to access any of those to get the machine to accept coins.

I should have been more clear on the coin/bill issue...and I know better too!
The nickle just drops to the tray. The bill validator cycles like my s plus and s 2000 but never lets a bill in. The first thing I did was check the CC and make sure the coin was in properly and I've removed and replaced the cash can and entire BV unit numerous times to no avail! I'm not there now but I can go over and check the sensitivity of the CC. I just did that with my s plus last night. However there still is the issue with the hold/draw lights acting as game selector buttons. Right now I'll go back and read the other posts on this problem.
Dumb question but, from that other post, where is the i/o board he's talking about? I see one against the back of the chassis. Is he talking about a connector in the door?
"802 I/O board mounted on the inside door connector"
 Duh!

I am going jump in here too.
It sounds like the gameking is in the middle of a play or thinks it is.
When I press my white button on my machine's board I get all the menu's including "setup".
When I deal a hand in poker then open the door and press the white button on the board, I get only three menus.

Your not getting all the menu's. Not taking coins or bills. Sure sounds like it is in the middle of a play.
But you can scroll through games and denoms. That shouldn't happen.

I would suggest a key chip and start over.

Just my two cents.

From what I was told, there was about 300 credits in the machine and someone pushed CASH OUT. That was it's last play before it was in storage for a short time and then off to the new owner. But on the screen AND when I push and hold the CC white button, I get the COIN IN JAM and the last payout of that 300 or so credits "winner paid 300..." So, it looks like the game played out. I do know there was not enough credits in the hopper but regardless, it says winner paid.

Will do.

I'm not there now but I can go over and check the sensitivity of the CC. I just did that with my s plus last night.

Good, let's start there.  I'm going to give some advice about the bill validator below, too, but let's start with getting coins to be accepted.  More than likely the sensitivity adjustment just needs to be jiggled around and turned to less sensitive.

However there still is the issue with the hold/draw lights acting as game selector buttons. Right now I'll go back and read the other posts on this problem.

This is NOT a problem -- that is normal behavior.  The five hold buttons act as selection buttons to correspond with the on-screen buttons during gameplay, and as game change buttons when idle and in the menu.  The far left and right hold buttons should move left or right between games, and the center button should switch denominations (if the game is multi-denom).  This is the case on even the old Game King software, as well as the latest stuff on the casino floors.  The fact that your game is doing that indicates that it is idle, error free, and ready to be played.

Here are some pictures I just took from my machine.  First, this is what is displayed if I turn the attendant key with the door closed.  Notice the bottom button says "SOUND SETUP":

Now here's the menu accessed by opening the door and pressing the self test button on the MPU board.  Notice that the only (subtle) difference is that the bottom button says "SETUP":

If you're not getting that SETUP button, let's stop here, and I'll agree with the others that it's time to clear and re-key the machine.  If you are getting that button, let's continue.

From the SETUP menu, click MACHINE OPTIONS, then BILL VALIDATOR OPTIONS:

From that menu, click the READ BILL VALIDATOR CRC button, which will bring you to this screen:

Press the yellow REQUEST CRC button.  You'll see the following status at the bottom of the screen for close to 30 seconds:

Then, this:

Press the yellow EXIT button to return to the setup screen:

Click the CLEAR BILL VAL CRC MISMATCH button.  You should get a message indicating that the operation was successful.

If you'd like, you can try the validator test -- click the DIAGNOSTICS menu button:

Then the red BILL VALIDATOR TEST button, which will bring you to this screen:

The bill validator should be active (and the "Insert Bills" bezel should be lit) while the screen says that the bill validator is currently ENABLED, and it should turn off when you toggle the ENABLE/DISABLE button.

Finally, here's a picture of my machine idle and in the game selection menu.  Note the hold buttons that are lit to allow for game selection, and the deal/draw button lit to confirm a game selection once you have it highlighted:

Thanks knagl!!!
I did everything from your list and it was all okay...still not working. Then I went back into a settings menu (I forgot what it was called) and noticed the top setting was $4.00 and the others below were $0. So I just reset the hopper payout and the rest to reasonable amounts, like on my s plus and s2000. I shut the door and the lights on the BV came on! I put in a nickle and the machine went "BLING." Put in a $5 and it sucked it in and credited.
GOT A WORKING MACHINE!!!  applause
Thanks everyone, especially knagl for posting the screen pics.

Clap  That's great when you can come through for a friend.

I wonder if the setting you changed was the one I posted earlier in the thread?

"Try ... Setup-->Machine Options-->Credit Style Setup and make sure the limits are set high."

I should have taken the time to post pictures like Knagl.  Glad you got it working!

I may have read that subconsciously! But I don't remember...I need to scroll back more often. I was just happy to finally see a menu option that I recognized...and I like the way it's displayed with the "keypad" on the right side: a lot more user friendly than my s plus or s2000. Thank you!

My machine had similar problems. The bill validator would cycle oddly at start up. It would not stop or make the normal cycling sounds. I fixed my machine when I found a rolled up dollar bill in my bill stacker box. It was hard to find. After I took it out I closed the machine and it was fixed. Hopes this helps someone.
