Title: How to fix errors with NTVDM.EXE when running Mikohn PSP software
Post by: 4 Deuces on July 28, 2012, 01:36:53 PM
When attempting to launch Mikohn Progressive System Programmer (PSP) software, you may get an error from Windows about NTVDM.EXE, which then immediately closes PSP.  The reason why is because a Windows XP patch was released in June of 2012 that broke NTVDM.exe, the program that runs older MS-DOS programs such as PSP.

I tried re-installing ntvdm .exe, .dll as well as wow32.dll from the original Windows CD, but no luck.  The only way I found to fix this was to uninstall the Windows patch.

  • It is called, KB2707511, and can be found by going to Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs --> Show Updates checkbox.
  • Scroll until you find Windows XP Security Patch KB270511 and click Remove.
  • You will be warned that it's connected to other security patches.
  • Further, after you reboot, Windows will want to reinstall it again.
  • But, do what you need to with PSP and then feel free to install it again.

Hope this helps!  :71-
