I've been through the Denver Mint. It's a very interesting process.
It's hard to believe all they go through just to make pocket change! arrow
This video is an example of how they make "proof" coins. Much nicer
looking than a standard uncirculated coin. yes

Seems like a lot of work. In todays day and age I would have thought they could have etched out a negative to scale directly from a computer in one shot.
Diecaster might have a perspective on this as he once gave me a tour of his aluminum casting facility. It was pretty neat.
