Hi Jim, welcome to the site!

 NLG Welcome

WMS has made dozens of different machines, so we'll need to first narrow down which kind of machine you have.  Since you're not too familiar with your game yet, a few pictures of the inside and outside of the machine would be a big help so that our members can determine which machine you have and get you pointed in the right direction.

Also, did the bill acceptor ever work since you've had the machine?  If so, any ideas what caused it to stop working?  Does it do anything (make any noise or anything) when you attempt to insert a bill?  Does the game run with coins?  The more information you can provide about the machine and the situation, the more we're able to give you good suggestions to get it back up and running.

 Please Post Pictures

Sounds like a WMS Dotmation game, but I'll wait for the pictures to be sure.  When you're taking them, please be sure to take a few of the bill acceptor area, and if it is an upright Dotmation machine, check on the right side (behind the handle) to see if there's a cash can behind the access door.  If you're not sure if there's a can in there, take a picture with that access door open, too.

Jackpot Limbo is a Dot game, unless it was later redone in a video version. For now, I'm moving this thread to the Wms Reel Games board.

First, did the DBV ever work? If so, can you detail what happened or what was happening when it stopped working?

Does the bill validator (DBV) make noise when you first turn the machine on? It should go through an internal check that is independent of its communication with the machine.

You've said nothing about any other problems, so I'll assume that the machine boots okay and that it plays with coins.

Power up the machine and let it finish booting.
Open the door.
Press the red test button on the card cage door once.
The display should read   "None    |     On"  across the credits and winner paid windows. If it reads "Off" (in the Winner Paid window) let us know.

Press the red button six more times (make sure the display changes each time, as sometimes the first push won't do anything.)
The display should read   "Cred          On". If it reads "Off" let us know.

Press the red button 11 more times. Just in case, check the display as you go for the following display:
The display should read "    1            On". Once again, if it reads "Off" let us know.
This option displays which bill denominations will be accepted. However, you can't change them.

With the display still reading "1        On|Off", press the max bet button.
Each time you do this, the denomination should increase from 1 to 100:
                                       "2          On"
                                       "5          On" then 10, 20, 50, 100, and back to 1.
Continue pressing the "Max Bet" button until you've gone through all of the denominations. If any read "Off" let us know.

Press the red button one time.
The display should read "HoPr       nnnn"  What 4 digit number is in the Win meter?

Press the red button five times. This should exit the menu to a normal door open condition and the reels should spin.

ACP is Wms communication protocol. That may be your problem since your machines isn't connected to any casino servers. However, I just tried setting my machine to ACP and it still took a bill. no Nevertheless, you should set it to None for home use.

To do that, go to that menu item (ACP  On).
Press the Max Bet button until you see "None  off" in the window. (If the max bet doesn't cycle through the options, use the JP reset key to do it.)
Press the Spin button. The display should now read "None On"
Press the red button until you exit the menu system to be sure that the change was saved.

Close the door and try the DBV.
Note: This setting can be changed with credits on the machine, but to be certain, I still recommend changing the setting with 0 credits on the machine.

Just to confirm, when you were in the denomination settings (1  on), did you use the max bet to scroll through all of the denominations? Were they all on?

If not, change them the same way you changed the ACP setting.

Press Max bet to scroll through them.
If any are listed as "off", press the spin button once. It will change to "on".
continue scrolling.

When you say it's not taking bills, do you mean that it will not even suck in a bill? Or it sucks it in and then rejects it?
If it won't even take bills in be sure all the switches are closed. Especially the one for the cash can door. If the lock is missing, you will have to wedge in a piece of folded paper or something to hold up the arm on the switch. If I had time I would take a photo of where this is. But unfortunately, I'm heading out and wont be back for two days.

...

Thanks Neon. That's where I was heading next. Tongue Out

However, if the cash door or can switches were open, he should be getting a "Please Wait    Calling Attendant" message on the DOT along with an LED error message, and shouldn't be able to play the machine.

If the stacker switch is open or the cash can is missing, the LED message would read "Stac Open." This trumps the cash door message.
If the cash door is open but the stacker is in place, the LED message would read "Bill  Open."

After following the above two posts,  Please Post Pictures of your DBV in detail, so we can see what you have.

Try to see if you have a DBV145 or a DBV200. It should be somewhere on the head.

What about Neon's question? Also, if it sucks it in, how long does it take to reject it?

it is a DBV200

Does it have a sticker that indicates that it's an ID044/045? Unfortunately, the sticker can be wrong, but it's a place to start.

Also look at the DIP switches on the bottom of the head. There are two sets: 1-10 and 1-6. All switches should be off with the possible exception of switch 10 on bank 1.

Let us know.

MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF WHEN DISCONNECTING OR CONNECTING ANYTHING, including the bill head.

The head is the black box in front of the bill transport. It is the device that reads the bill and communicates with the machine – and that has the three harnesses attached to it.

So based on your posts:

The machine boots without problems and plays normally.
It takes coins and pays from the hopper.
The DBV cycles on startup and has power (you see light inside the head.)
The DBV does not even try to take in a bill.  (I wish you had specified that earlier Duh!  frying pan rotflmao rotflmao)

The most likely causes are

The DBV harness is bad (or possibly not properly/well connected)
The DBV head is bad or the software is wrong/corrupted
The I/O board is damaged or bad (The top card in the card cage) (less likely, since the rest of the machine is running properly)
The entire DBV assy (including transport) is bad (not likely.)

At this point (other than trying to re-seat the DBV harness on both ends) you'll need to try swapping out the DBV harness, the head, and/or the IO board.

If one of our members with more hardware or Dotmation experience has another idea, please post.  Hail applause

If no one has any other suggestions, you can post a WTB in our classifieds.
