Title: Chicagoland Coin-op Show Spring 2009
Post by: tacman on March 09, 2009, 12:56:36 AM
Well, here it is coming up again! The Chicagoland Spring Coin-op Show will be held at Pheasant Run resort on April 3,4 & 5, 2009. As usual the NLG pre-meet will be on Saturday at the McDonald's just to the west of the convention center starting at about 7-8 am. Below is a map of the area and another of the resort/convention center and McDonald's. Hope to see old friends as well as some new ones!  :3-

Also 2 300lb NFL linemen to encourage tacman to play along

Location and timing are everything, aren't they? Out there in Chicago in early April, you'd need the linemen for enforcement. At NLG headquarters in July, we'd all be lining up to be dunked. :97- :97-

Well it looks like I will not make it to this Spring Show. :37- :37- I have my relations coming to see us at the same day of the show.
Since we are all at that age we do not want to miss any get to gathers. But plan to be a the Fall Show.

I hate I will miss the dunking of Tacman. :97- :97-  Ron you probably don't need to bring the ice as it is usually cold enough to freeze the water, don't forget an ice pick :79-

Ron

Ron, does that mean the team won't miss the linemen for games after I introduce them to my leetle friend?   :89- Oh, that's right the way they are playing they don't have any linemen anyway!!  :97-  :97-  :97-
I see we're starting the war again, have to bring my rabbit skin lined gloves and fur hat to the meet.  :5-

 Dan (tacman)

P.S. Tell those linemen not to go boating, its hazardous to their health.

Ron, no problem, I can always use the practice. Don't know about Harris, but mentioning Tank lowers your credibility, gangbangers with talent but can't leave the Hood alone. Wonder if Tank ever got his dogs back that we took from him?? Also the little friends from the FBI were awhile back after the news got ahold of the story that they let the Bears shoot up the range.

 Dan (tacman)

Hey ask Tommy if he would be interested in these new sights I'm marketing. I'm sure it will improve his and the other guys aim.

The two cabinets I made are 44" and 47" respectively (without the candles)

lol...that's a great idea actually, ArchJDS
These cabinets run really cool because I have extra large vents in the top box and out the back.
I could have peanuts come out the side....might cost the player a coupla credits though... :96-

Dan,  Those look ok.  The holes in the top are to run your cords/links thru.  Newer style games need this but yours are neat and the buyer could drill a hole where they want if need be. I prefer the real deal myself they look much better but you do have a bargain price on those.  Thanks B.

The purchase of at least two new slot machines* and half a dozen conversion kits a year or equivalent in parts and restoration projects, OR the maximum allowed by The Wife ( :14-), whichever is less. :5- :30- :30- :97- :97- :97- :97-

Dave, I think he was talking about dues to Rick's SMAA. Xkey, my respects to your driving endeavor, my son was stationed at Ft. Eustis in your backyard so I have done that drive. There are several hotels in and around that area depending on the chain you like to frequent. Since I am on furlough leading up to the show if you decide another way to get here, plane or Amtrak, I'm sure I can pick you up and provide transportation to your hotel and the meet/show. If you are hoping for a machine then I think using your own transportation is the way to go. If you do make the decision to come up, let me know and I will send you my cell# for Justin Case.

Dan (tacman),

Thanks for the offer, I have checked on airfare, its not too bad, but I probably will not be able to gate check an S2000.  I think that my neighbor and I are going to drive up, it the pre meet and McD's on Friday or Saturday.

Xkey, no problem. If you are eyeing one of those S2000's from DansGames, you may want to get ahold of him, see what his inventory is and put a hold on whatever you want. Hope to see you there!

thinking of coming up for the show, its only 15 hours each way, but it is the closest to the homestead.  Can anyone suggest a place to stay that is reasonable?

Jon-

When I went to the show, I stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites, Geneva (http://www.comfortinngeneva.com/).  It's about 10 minutes from the show, and was really nice.  Their rates were pretty comparable to the other hotels in the area (a LOT cheaper than the resort where the show is being held), and I was able to get a free upgrade to a whirlpool suite for the asking (your mileage may vary, of course).

You can also use Hotwire or Priceline to get a place if you want to get a good rate and don't particularally care which hotel you end up in (for Hotwire, choose the "St. Charles - Geneva" area, for Priceline it's simply the "St. Charles" area).

Well, the meet & show is just around the corner and this thread seemed to lose steam with people posting wants and what they're bringing to sell or give away.  :60- I found a stray S+ reel and non-standard IGT silver oval topper faceplate that anyone can just have. I could use a couple of IGT S2000 small button assembliies for the bet deck, figure I'd play around with M/D in the future. I will also be bringing my lift table and 2 wheeler, don't know how many machines will be changing hands, but we will be prepared! Lets keep everyone posting with wants and haves to maybe entice a few more members to come on out!

That's not a penalty, that's their welcome gift. :88- :68-

Then  they drop you off, married to your welcome gift, in the middle of the strip, wearing nothing but your jewelry, and they drop your machines off in Pahrump at the brothel so that they can enjoy the immoral purposes that you had intended for them. :30- (basically the opposite of what you might have wished.)

Special thanks to Dan from Dans Games for bringing another truckload of great slots (Eventhough Tacman stole the one I wanted I got my 5 reel-er)
I guess we should thank Tacman for all the great repair DVDs and all the work he puts into them
And of course KenoKarz for all the pens My wife must have 6 or 7 hundred

We really need to plan a get together at my house before the next show on a day that everyone can make

OK, guys! I just uploaded a bunch of pics from the meet and show to the Gallery area for Spring2009. My camera took a dive at the meet so the rest of the pics are from my cell camera. I gave the camera to Kenokarz to take pictures cause my lift table was getting a heck of a workout! As always, DansGames makes this event and members always come out on top with his items! Some new and interesting things at the show this time but there were some empty spaces. There are some pics of this Bingo/Roulette/Pinball machine I saw there. You shoot up to five balls into the playfield, a rotating wheel catches them and then marks the position on the upper screen giving a win/loss. I had a heck of a time getting "He who shall not be named" (Bunnyslots) away from the condom/enhancement dispensers and the Liberace slot machine!! :97- As always it was great to see everyone, well...almost everyone (Bunnyslots)  :72-. I came away with a Double Diamond Run 5 reeler (non-Vision) and will post a pic at a later date.
If you see any compromising pictures of me pop up here, all I have to say is my main slot provider said he wanted me to wear the ears and hold the baskets, You think I'm stupid!! Enjoy the pics everyone!!

Hello all!

What a fun morning!  It was great to see everyone again and meet some new people!  Thanks everyone for the freebies, this is such a great group of people.  I did pick up an IGT S2000 Triple Double Stars machine.  I only took a few photos...but one of them is priceless!

Tacman is the Easter Bunny!!!!!

Not exactly Bunnyslots, since Tacman has managed to kill every bunny within a 100 mile radius of the Chicago area He was appointed to help deliver 1,231,347 baskets on easter Sunday. He just figured He would get an early start right after the show. As you can see kenokarz was checking the quality of the eggs Tacman was about to deliver.   :3- :3- :3-

A couple really nice rol-a-tops pictured . There were a few high top repo's  at the show asking price for them was around $1,200. The floor models started at $18,000 and up. The one pictured was $28,000. The rol-a-tops are still holding a good price between $3,400 coin front  to $7,500. cherry front and bird of paradise. I saw a few new dealers I haven't seen at previous shows, although the 2nd building had alot of empty spaces available.

Sorry Ron and everyone, no group picture.  :8- If you go to the Gallery you'll see what was taken in the parking lot, as you can see I was busy loading everyones slots!  :25- At the show, we helped some stranger load 2 slant tops into a mini-van (pics in Gallery) myself and Railroad94 got cuts in the process, but we made them fit. Seller told us he'd take $1000 for the PE slant top he still had.  :97- If you look at the Gallery pics you'll see Diecaster looking like Grizzly Adams, actually the beard looks good and Karaoke Mike is in a couple helping me load HIS RT Super Spin Sizzlin 7's onto MY lift cart.  :72-

I had a good time seeing everyone again. One of these days, I'm going to talk the other half into getting a game from Dan since this show is always a week before my birthday. Maybe next year!

The show seemed to be smaller than in the past, but with the way the economy has been, it's what I expected. Prices seemed down from years past and the one vendor which has been at every show I can remember with brass cash registers wasn't there. This was the one vendor I wanted to see because in the past he was selling restoration videos on these beasts.

Hope Ron's back is OK, seems it gets a good workout at least twice a year!

Hi all. Went to the show and I did not like it. I was looking for parts for some of my machines but there were not many vender's there with slot machines. Just old ones like mills. No newer machines or parts. The whole show took about 20 minutes to see and 5 and 1/2 hours to get there. Very disappointed and would not go back. Need better shows to find parts for newer machines.

I went two years ago and my synopsis was the same. There was one vendor selling some sad looking S+'s from the parking lot and the show itself was more memoribilia and jukeboxes.
I will be going back to the show which will involve a 3hr flight from where I live, rental car, hotel etc and I likely will not purchase anything due to the hassle to bring it home. My purpose of going will be just to hang out with the other members. I think the best part of the show is the NLG swap meet at Mc'ds .... it certainly isn't the food.

Hi all. Do you think  its time to get all the NLG members together to put on a swap and sell show just for slot machines. It would make more since to all if you could bring your extra parts and sell them to other slot machines collectors like us. You might be able to sell more machines if that is what you advertise in the paper or on NLG.We should get together and see if it is possable in northern Ohio.  JUST A THOUGHT.

That would be my main reason for going if I could ever make it. They could even hold it at a McDonald's and I'd still want to come to meet and hang out with everyone...
Oh, wait.. :25- D'OH!  :160- :166- :29- :135-  :97- :97- :97- :97-

Still, clown2948's idea is already taking place on a smaller scale in the parking lot each year; it might be interesting if you guys could expand that concept. :79-

Actually the show and meets happen twice a year, spring and fall. If you go back to the last threads on each show, you'll see many comments by attending members that stated the best part of it was the pre-show meet. We have a pretty consistent showing with 12-15 members coming every meet, sometimes more depending on people's schedules. And machines from DansGames aren't the only thing that changes hands at the meet either, kits, manuals and parts are bought sold, traded or just given away!! Sorry, you didn't make the meet clown2948 maybe your opinion might have changed a little. I assume your schedule did not coincide with the meet for you to be able to attend. Your ideas about get togethers and a possible swap meet is also something that we already do, or try to at members houses during the year. I would suggest doing what I did when I got on NLG, start corresponding with other members in your area and then try to get something going, Ohio, due to its friendly slot laws would be a good choice for you guys in that region. We've got Midwest members that drive 3-3 1/2 hrs to get to the meet, an honorary midwest member that drives from waayyy down south, so who knows, maybe a few of us will stop by your regional shindig too!
