Title: A few things I discovered trying to fix my pokers
Post by: BALLIGATOR1973 on November 23, 2009, 11:23:21 PM
 Hi there!

As you will notice I am not an expert in poker machines, I am better at fixing Bally reel slots ( excepting Bally 5000 which I do not want to touch any more in my life  :60-.

Back to the point, I have 6 pokers, I think they are Pe plus. Three were manufactured with BV, the MPU is located just above the screen, it is easy to take it out, it is like a drawer. I wanted a Joker poker game, I got the right data and program chips, changed the Mro, MGo etc... and I realized the language was Spanish... :103-, besides I had to set the denomination. I used the proper chp and the denomination was set. As for the language, I eventually understood that a jumper had to be moved and like a miracle the language was back to English. :3- I am sure all the IGT experts knew about that, not me.

The problem is that when I put this MPU on the different type of IGT I have, IE: No BV, MPU located inside the machine on the left of the hopper, I first had to clear a Card Cage open ( adding a jumper on the board on which the MPU has to be plugged), I realized that it was impossible to get into the options of the machine, I mean I could not get further than testing the buttons. I could get to the page where I could enable the double up or the paytable... Anyone could tell me why?  Why did it worked on the more recent machine and not on this one since the MPU was the same?

Besides, I tested another MPU with the same programs on the 2 kinds of pokers, that time I had a problem with the HOLD  number three button which gave its signal only to the Hold 2 button, HOLD 4 and Hold 5 worked properly. I first thought, my buttons had a problem but testing the MPU on the other machines, the same problem appeard. Any idea why?
Attached 2 pictures. DRAW POKER ( PE plus?) and Nevada Bonus Poker , more recent, BV ( P E plus as well?)

Make sure you have 0 credits on the machine.

Hi Balligator-

Yes, those are both PE+ machines.  The one with the embedded BV has to be a PE+, and if the same tray works in your others then they are PE+ as well.

I've seen graphics in Spanish, but never had any idea how to enable them.  Would you mind posting a picture of the jumper you have to use to enable/disable the different languages?

Was that the exact error message, or did it just say "Door Open"?  You said that you had to add a jumper on the MPU board -- what jumper was that?  I've never seen a "Card Cage Open" message on a PE+ before (not saying that it can't happen, but I've never seen it).  You also said that once you added that jumper that you couldn't get into the settings.  Have you tried powering down, removing that jumper, powering up, and then adjusting the settings?  If the chipset you're using does in fact have support for a card cage switch, it's possible that it requires the card cage to be open to make configuration changes.

Yes -- I had a board that did the same thing.  There's a group of diodes (I think) in the corner of the board -- one for each hold button.  Look at them closely -- if one is damaged or not functioning correctly, you'll get a situation where the wrong hold buttons are registered.  I'll try and take a picture of the board and highlight the area in question.  We replaced a diode that had physically been broken due to careless handling of the board and the problem was solved.

There are no language jumpers, you will need to change chip sets......

there were two boards made for the PE+ series   the first can be distinguished by where the battery is located, left most corner, edge of logic board.  mounted to a removeable holder similar to a S+.

the second version is the "super board"  , its battery is located near center favoring the left side.

both boards were interchangeable, this allowed regular PE's to become Multi Game machines.  you had to change the chip sets.

there were certain games that had to be used with a SET 1, versus a SET 4.

I have seen the remnants of the card cage switch holder still in the machine, but never had to do anything to override it ?

 Hi my friends!

To change the language from Spanish to English ( or the other way round...) just move E 16 to E 17 (jumper). I don't know if it works for other languages.

As for going into the options, I tend to think that it makes a difference according to the programs we use and mostly it depends on the machine.

Jay, I made sure there were no credits, I could not get into the options in one machine whereas I could putting the same board in another machine.

Today, i went further into my enquiries as regards my pokers. The problem is the following one, the BV were programmed as follows: 1 credit is 25 cents. I would like one credit to give 1 euro ( sorry I am French!  :88-)  I went into the options, I noticed I needed a set denomination chip, which I have ( yes, you can applaud!). I used that chip, change the denomination, enabled the BV then saved the options but when I put the program back to the board and restarted the machine, there was no change. ( now you can boo me) Is someone could tell me what I did wrong?
( Same question to change the denomination of BV on IGT reel slots...)
Thanks for your help.
