I wonder if the prism is in there?
There's a glass prism behind the coin-in optics board under the coin comparator behind the whole coin mechanism bracket.
If it's not in there, the coin-in optics will not register a credit.

What happens when you push the little white test button on the coin optics? Originally you stated this machine worked for 8 years but some of the comments lead me to believe you just acquired it. Is that true???

I'm gonna guess that after he cleared it he didn't return the jumper to it's origional position or lost denom and/or limit settings when he cleared it

Nope, had it for 8 years and it had been working for 7 1/2.

So the glasss prism is there but what I found when taking thing apart was a red wire broken off at the plug that goes in to the comparator!!!
Im guessing that is the culprit. (photo attached, I used a piece of black rubber being so you could see it better.

BTW, I definately did return the jumper to its original position, but thanks for checking cowboy.

This wouldnt explain my issue with the bill validator though, perhaps cowboy is on to something there with denomination or limit settings?

Denomination is dip switch controlled. If the jumper was left on he would have never gotten a code 50. Is there any codes after 50 like 54 or 31???   I suggest you use the test features that are outlined in module two.
What happens when you press the little button on the coin optics??

Dang it! Thought I was on to something there. frying pan My S6000 had a similar problem, but with the yellow wire. I don't remember if it affected validator use or not though. I used a little solder to put my wire back in the molex, worked great yes

Also check the switch on the MPU board...Is it in the "Coin Mech" position (down) or in the Up position?...I could not tell from the photo...

- Coin Mech was down (must have bumped it)

- I flipped Coin Mech to on (up).

The Coin Mech now accepts coins but does not register them as credits (im guessing my lil red wire)

The BV is now working and it is reading credits. (did that have something to do with the coin mech?) If not I am wondering why the green light came on the BV and now it works?

The only thing it would seem isnt working is the coin mech.
