Guys can you tell me do you short out J10 with the machine on and follow on screen instructions or with the machine off for a while to clear.
How can you tell if this board can be reset by the jumper and not chips?
I am new here and just got 3 5500 machines. One is showing err 81 so i am going to change the battery tomorrow.
Hope mine can be cleared by the jumper as I live in Northern Ireland and would not know where to get the clear chips

I have found a clear guide on here about clearing the machine. My chips are dates 1993 so J10 looks good. Will solder a new battery housing on tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Steve I sent you a Email.  I don't know that the date means anything, but to use the jumper at JW10 the mains must have the number 920000 on them.

I use a cordless phone battery that has 3 cells in it and is 3.6 volts. It should last a couple of years. That is a really cheap option.

Cheers. I will grab something like that tomorrow and try it.
Just checking with Buzz that if I use the J10 reset and my chips are not suitable will it damage the board or just not reset the machine?

Well Buzz, good news. Soldered a battery on the board and did the ram clear. Machine now working well. It is taking coins and playing but no wins yet to test the hopper.  2nd Machine had the same treatment but I found out someone has cut the connector into the coin mech and i need to find one from somewhere. The 3 rd machine needs a transformer and also the coin mech plug and wire. At least I am getting places with your help so thank you.

yep player tracking, CDS Sentinel 2 and SMI boards looks like to me.  disconnect for home use!
