I have a megatouch maxx ruby and upon power up the bill validator cycles and I hear the "static sound" from the monitor, but the only thing on the screen is a green line/bar @3/4 inch high and it goes all the way across the screen. For what it is worth, the fan on the block power supply is not spinning.

Thanks,

David

Try swapping out the power supply with a known good one?

well, I have ordered one just for staters. I don't really know that much about megatouch games, just wanted so if any other members out there did. Does the power supply only power up the cpu and the hard drive on these machines? Also, there is a slot on the side where I can insert a disk, is this for upgrading the hard drive inside the game?

Sounds like the board needs recapped.

On my Wells Gardner monitor I re-capped but was burning a diode.
I finally gave up on the repair and replaced with a 15" LCD computer monitor.

On my Tatung, which are normally bulletproof, a friggin mouse got in the cabinet
and kablooeyed my board. Had to order some thermistors from Taiwan but never got
around to attempting the repair. I replaced the chassis with another which was the
"easy" fix but I still intend on repairing the blown board when I find the time.

If you watch ePray closely, often times you can find a chassis fairly cheap and save
the agony of tracing caps and diodes but most monitor guys I've seen will say to
start with a cap kit.

There's an off chance it could be the power supply or the flyback or the yoke but
odds are its the caps. By design, they are what wear out and are the likely culprits.

thanks for the info guys. what is involved in changing the game over to take a lcd monitor? How will the touchscreen work with a lcd?

For my conversion to LCD, I found a 15" kiosk monitor on ePray which, without the casing around a regular monitor,
fit very nicely in the front of the cabinet without the plastic frame/shroud used on the CRT. As for the touchscreen,
I again found one on ePray and believe they are still there. Not just any will work. Allegedly ELO will work and I went
that route at 1st but never could get the Elo to work right even with 3 diff controllers so I digressed to Microtouch.
I found a 15" FLAT Touchscreen on ePray with the same connector as the curved touchscreen on original. When I
plugged it in and fired it up all was good. I did have to do some minor fudging in the cabinet to make the LCD sit right
but I am real happy with the end result. I also had to do a little rigging in the wiring to power the monitor. I'm sure
a guy could use a regular computer monitor but would have to take apart the casing to fit...this is the route I was
going to go but I happened to find the kiosk monitor at a cheaper price and knew would be less hassle.

So in short:
-----Find a 15" Kiosk Monitor & a 15" Flat Microtouch Touchscreen with same connector and should be good to go

FYI. Just for all the guys gals who buy or are given a countertop -Merit game -Williams Infinity -Jvl series IF THE CRT -aka cathode ray tube monitor has "funky" images on power up? Don't think the monitor is bad at once ! Just unplug the VGA cable 15 pin blue in most cases. + run it to your LCD or old CRT home pc monitor. You will see things in a diff view.  Its a easy test without buying cap kits etc.  I have taken 100's of counter top cabinets retro fit LCD displays or hide the cabinet under a bar + run Vga cable + Db-9 -pin touch screen cable to a nice LCD touch screen sitting on a bar or table top. you can pick up nice new or used 15 -inch LCD touch screens 3M micro touch for short money on ebay. Just remember JVL does not support "ELO" T\S on there Concorde 5 -8 series no drivers. Merit did install both drivers on all games except some Force models. Need the Black color 3m controller with the fact monitor. Food for thought folks.
