Title: Enhanced Sounds on a Game King?
Post by: knagl on July 04, 2009, 07:04:23 AM
Greetings from a new Game King owner.

I just installed a multi-game set in my machine (the fairly standard 30-game set which can display up to 12 per denomination), but I noticed that some of the games that I would expect some "enhanced" (for lack of a better term) sounds, there's nothing or just standard dings.  Is that a factor of the particular game set I have in the machine, or do I need the extra board and some extra sound chips?

My GK is a circa 1998 model and the processor board/tray has the keyswitch built into it.

Examples of "missing" sounds:

- Caveman Keno -- in the casino there's the annoying screeching noise and/or the chomping noise when you start a new game.  Also, the eggs make a cracking noise when they're hit in the casino.  On mine just different-toned dings for each of those events.

- Double Bucks Slot -- in the casino there's music in the background when you hit the 10 free spin bonus.  On my machine it's nearly silent during the bonus, only making the "pulling the slot machine arm" sound at the start of each spin, and the standard credit rollup noise on a win.  No reel sounds either during the free spins, which leads me to think that the machine is expecting the bonus music to be playing.

There's probably others that I'm either not aware of or I'm not remembering, but those stand out.  Any ideas?

Also, speaking of that add-on daughter board for sounds, do those boards have any kind of official name, and does anyone have one or more of them available?  I may want/need one, and a friend could use a couple of them.

Thanks for any help.

It sounds to me like you would need the daughter board and relevant chips fitted.

Regarding names, there are I beleive two version, the MMLite and MMLite II (2). The one you need I think is the MMLite which uses eeproms and goes with the 3802 board.

The MMLite 2 works with the simms in a 3902 board.

That is my understandin, someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

Kevin, I agree. The MMLB board is needed for the additional sounds. Did you get 2-4 additional eproms with your software set for this application? You should be able to pick up an eprom based MMLB board very cheap, I think John42355 had them on Ebay for $2.99.

Kevin, here is a pic of the MMLB board. PN# 76923202 MODEL # 2710-2

If you have the older GK board, I don't think it has the connectors for this board.

If you do have a 3802 board, which it sounds like you do, than neither of the Multimedia Lite boards will work.
there is an earlier sound board for the 3802.  I believe I have one I can sell you. I'll check.  The eproms you need are most likely the DSS00046 1&2

Dan- Yes, I do have the older board -- no SIMM slots on it like the one you showed.

Eric- That's excellent news, thanks!  Please let me know via PM if you have one.  Do you know the name or part number of that board, as I have a friend looking for a few of them, too.  Thanks!   :3-

Thanks to all for the replies and information.  :89-

That is the sound board I am Talking about.
I have one I can sell him, but he must make sure he he has a 3802 board as the 1st gameking board, the 3502 looks the same, but does not have the sockets to insert the sound board.
Thanks,
Eric

The board I have is pictured below.  It has single-row sockets (P1 and P2 on the board) which appear to be where the add-on board would go.

(Thanks to Kenokarz for the pictures!)

That's definitely a 3802 in your picture. The single row black headers is where the sound board plugs in.

I came across one of these at a friend's shop today.  The part number on the one he had was labeled as 13901290 (Revision B).

The first socket to use for sound chips is U6.  If there's a second chip for the game, it goes in U7.
