I have friend who has offered to sell me a CDS Barn yard machine he wants 100 bucks for it. Sounds like a bargain but I do know it is not in working condition and he believes it is in need of birth chips to get it to work again. The machine looks like it would be fun to play, However I am Leary to get in to a machine that is potentially unrepairable due to the chips and repair manual  being hard or impossible to find. I am new to slot ownership but I am up to a challenge. Is this a challenge or a $100 lamp that comes with a headache?

Believe me...It's pretty hard to give birth to something that is dead.  rotflmao
That machine is better off used as a good heavy boat anchor from what I've heard about them...
For some reason, once those CDS machines left the casinos - they never ordered more...  no

There's only one guy I know that had some - he did NOT like them.
I'll let him chime in,  should he want to add his expertise on CDS machines - which I lack.

Then again, for $100 if you part it out on EBAY you could probably get your money back pretty easy. I imagine someone here on the site probably has a set of birthing chips you couls beg, borrow or steal to see if that gets it going. I hate to throw anything out without trying though. A $100 is next to nothing for giving it the old college try. Just one mans opinion...

There isn't enough free space on this forum for me to tell you how much I dislike CDS's and I still have 5 or 6 of them. ( two actually work ) The reason I still have them is, I won't sell JUNK to anyone. If your looking for a machine you can tinker with, DO NOT buy a CDS. Example one day by mistake I stuck a WBA BV from a Game King in a CDS, the machine went dead and has never played again. It's not the power supply, I put one in from another machine that destroyed 3 MPU just using Birth chips. The list is a lot longer.

Jennasbetterhalf   If you decide to buy your friends machine, a word of caution. Look at the color of the MPU, if the board is RED and not blue/green  Run, Run as fast as you can. And no they will not interchange. To change from a red to a blue/green MPU you must also change the back plane.

There is a better than good chance I have a set of B/G board birth chips. I may have a set of red board birth chips. I will need to know what version game you have, it will be marked on the game chips. CDS isn't like a IGT where one clear chip will work on most machines. CDS has a long list of Birth chips depending on the version,  which ones will work.

FWIW - we've been down the CDS road with similar "bargain barnyard" machines....and unfortunately, I"m with Buzz and Bunker. Do yourself a favor and politely pass....if you want a project, search your local Craigslist or whatever and find an IGT or Bally for the same price. Parts and knowledge are much more plentiful.

Of maybe 8 machines we bought (or maybe it was "hauled off" for a small fee?) I think we got 3 going before determining they were just not worth the time, since they proved unreliable. Only one of the 3 is still reliably up and running. Others are slated for parts/scrap.  We had a BarnYard machine in the gameroom for awhile, until we just couldn't handle the constant "YYYYeeeeeeeeeeehhhaaawww!!!!!!" every time you win even 1 coin!!!!!  Made you crazy, you would hear it in your sleep after playing it!!!  arrow (Couldn't find a Smiley with a gun to the head, which would have been more appropriate!)

Good luck in your endeavor, if you should decide to purchase it. After all, you may just get it up and running if you get the birth chips!

SLOTMAN  I have only owned two CDS video machines and they both have a blue/green MPU. ( I don't know if a RED board was ever put into a video machine, )  Video and reel machines use the same MPU.

Buzz, I replied to your email maybe you didnt get it.  I replied to the email with the pic you sent me.  You have exactly what I am looking for, the actual processor.  It is exactly what is in the pic you sent but I dont think you want to part with it, do you?????  Its possessed if it was in a CDS so it may be bringing you bad luck.

Rich  Let me install it into Easy Street and see if it's any good. If it works I will ship it to you and see if it's really what you need.

All right I tested, it seems there are two different boards. I don't know, when are where but I have a spare of each, ( I think from Joey ) The spare one  in my Pic. 20 tested good. Pic 19 not so good, I get a error   " SELF TEST  This Monitor is working Please check the video cable and computer " I got this same error the first test and noticed I didn't have what I'm going to call a SIMM card installed. Once I installed the SIMM every thing was OK.   I have one extra SIMM if you want to try it. If this is the same error your getting, maybe clean the contact on your SIMM.

The other machine I have Frog Wild doesn't work., but this weekend I will pull the board ( Pic. 19 ) out of it and test it it Easy Street. ( Frog Wild is not on a tray but mounted in the machine ) I know it's a good board and if it doesn't work I would say they are not interchangeable.

Hey, if you decide to get it and want your return on investment I will give you 100.00 for the I/O and Adastra board.  Then you can part the rest out and possibly make some money.

SLOTMAN  That would be a great idea except the reel machines don't have a hard drive or Adastra board.

I WILL definitely buy this CDS BARNYARD Slot from you if you have irt. Only a straight up deal. I need the BELLY GLASS and will pay up to $100 for it. I could pick up the entire machine, if you are close to me, or you could mail me the glass. I live in San Antonio, Texas. There are other parts I would consider buying from you also afterward. The whole machine is only worth around $100. I do not need to questioning whether the electronics work. NO Problem. The Glass must be good. I can give you my 100% Feedback rating from EBAY/PAYPAL. Please let me know one way or another. Thanks and waiting to hear from you, " jackrabbit "

I ended with the machine but did not get the keys for it yet.  I am going to get them soon I hope and, at that time I will see what is wrong with the machine if it needs to much work I would bee happy to part it out or sell it as a parts machine. The glass is good and I would ship it to you since I am in Green Bay WI.
