Need help with a Bally 3 reel 2 quarter model E-1088-34.  Just picked up the machine with 2nd and 3rd reels that do not always stop.  Battery dead ( .06 volts) and I used a 3.6 portable phone lithium to try to get machine running till I get the correct battery to solder in.  Machine will not stop 2nd and/or 3rd reel on initial start ups. I turn off and turn on, drop 2 quarters in and are accepted into hopper.  Pull handle all three reels work as they should, reels stop and then the machine lights tilt and will not accept quarters.  If you turn off the machine then back on it will keep repeating the tilt after each pull.  Good looking machine labled Reel Winner, Belly glass is Lake Tahoe Hyatt.  Board with battery is a P-2948-304-AS2979-1.  I am familiar with my IGT S+ Haywire that needed a clear chip run after changing a battery.  Does this machine need a clear chip or is there a sequence using the reset key?  Thank for reading, any help is appreciated.  Jim

Hi Jim... Do you see any numbers in the payout meter like 41, 42, or 43? These Bally machines will show an error code in that area when they malfunction. These machines don't use clear chips, but do have a test and reset button on the hopper control board.

Gary I went to write down the codes and remembered my Universal slot machine shows a 50 code when I open the door to pull quarters out of the hopper to play.  So I tested the door switch and found it is always open, but since it has two open sets of contacts I switched the wires to the other switch pair, hit the reset on the hopper and closed the door.  The machine works fine after about running $5 in quarters through the machine.   The problem with the reels free spinning did not seem to tie into the 50 code but it appears to fix my problem. Does this make sense?  Thank you for your help.  Jim

Jim.. If you tried to play the machine with the door open it would show a tilt. The code 50 is a door open code for the Bally E-Series, so if you closed the door and inserted a quarter the code 50 will go away and show how many coins were played and coins paid if you hit a jackpot. So to answer your question, yes it make sense. Have fun with your machine...  Cheer Leader

how does the reel mech. look is it clean ? if the three arms and shafts behind the reels are gumed up it will cause u alot of problems. just got a e machine playing like a new one and this was the problem. just make sure everything is moving freely on the reel mech if not hit it with a little wd-40 and work it until it frees up.  this could save you alot of money. good luck!
