I had the battery replaced about a year ago, and have not had the machine on for some time, and turned on the machine today and got this error. Is the machine toast now?  Please help!  Thanks

You need to do a complete saferam clear, but I would check the battery voltage first.

I hate Bally batteries.  They die way too often.

S6000 aren't bad at all, S5500 have a greater appetite, but Gamemakers are very hungry for batties.  Bally designed the machines to run steady and not be left turned off for long periods of time, I'm sure they could have made them use less battery power if they had wanted to.

Thanks,
Wayne

The battery is holding the ram info, unlike IGT and WMS that use an ic on the backplane to store the info, or static ram, also bally has always had watchdog circuits since the 5000 for things like door open while power off, not that others don't, just the way they are designed

Munch, don't blame the battery, blame the board designers. Tongue Out     stir the pot / get cooking muted no Spank slap

That cuts right to the chase. Bad design.

Thanks to everyone for their replies,  I am new at this so, how would I go about performing a Saferam Clear?
I also take it that I should turn the machine on at least once a month and let the battery charge for what 8 hours ???

Leaving the machine on will not charge the battery as it is a lithium battery and when exhausted is done, you will need to check the battery voltage first before going any further with a volt meter, then to clear the ram you will need a set of correct ram clear chips unless you have a very early set of Mains, the version number of them and year of them should be on the chiips at U-28 and U-43 on the CPU, make sure the machine is off before pulling any component, such as the board
