Title: Universal 8116-A2 board
Post by: uniman on November 04, 2010, 11:35:15 PM
Here is a closeup picture of the battery area of the 8116-A2 board.
Requested by a Uni owner.

Another note;
If the 8116 board has a 28-pin socket at location A2 then there are two cut traces.
If the board has a 24-pin socket at location A2 than the traces are not cut.
See red circles on pic below.

Thanks Uniman  :131-

I did notice the cuts were deliberate so i never joined them up.
I have  solved the eratic switching on problem.( 3 track's eroded away ).
Do all the optics , hopper , and handle coil have to be connected before you will get the reels to spin.
I have set the mpu and the wiring harness up on a work bench without the above parts mentioned connected.
when i run test 6 it stops on 100 in the display( this i think is the reel optics ) but these optics and the motors test fine.

thanks to all

The reels should spin even when the hopper and handle optics are disconnected.
The 100 displayed on test #6 means no input from reel #1 optic.
Try switching reel #1's plug with reel #2. A repeat of 100 would indicate board failure or two bad reel optics. Although you have already tested the reels & optics as good.

Even if the reel optic was bad I believe the reel would still spin during game play but never stop.

Thanks Uniman

I can see you have worked on these machines allot. You were spot on the first reels optic is faulty  i get no diode reading across the input side of it.
All the reels spin since i replaced the battery and soldered all tracks neatly. The first reel does spin continuously.
do you now if there is a replacement part for this optic.
Thanks again for your help.

Not sure where to get a replacement. I looked through my parts and can not find one. I have plenty for the Ultra Series, but they are different. Recently moved so there is still some boxes with stuff in them, I'll keep checking.

Is there a part number for those? Specifications perhaps?
Maybe I can help on a search?

Hi

Based on the info that Rookie sent me here is the datasheet for the optic.
Rookie - You can print this and take it to your local electronic suppliers to check if they have this or an equivalent

Regards
Ian

Hi

Thanks Uniman for the info on the door switch.( is this an optic or a normal switch).
Thanks TZtech for the data sheet i found a optics sensor that's not a darlington pair output but it works fine.
this is the replacement optic i used
SENSOR GAP G3.1 A0.25 TCST2300
OPTICAL SENSOR
WITH PHOTOTRANSISTOR

Mine is the Gray optic. Older Uni's did use a micro switch. To be clear; This is the door "lock" switch located in the door.
There is also a cherry switch located next to the reset button for "door closed".

no you are correct it is a gray optic that picks up from the door lock. Thanks.
Must i open a new topic with each issue i have?
With your guys help i have now got the Uni running but the hopper keeps getting jammed.( it is the old standard type metal and plastic ).

Thanks again
