Title: please can someone help Post by: cupcrazy on November 14, 2010, 04:13:27 AM Last year i got a s5500 machine, but the theme is so very generic and there doesn't even seem to be a name for the game. It is mostly purple and blue and it has a bunch of "?" marks on the belly glass. It is a random "respin" machine. 3 coin one payline. hopefully the pic comes through. PLEASE, if anyone has ever seen one, let me know..
it gives me a code of 81 now. i assume the battery is dead but i dont know the procedure on replacing it THANK YOU Title: Re: please can someone help Post by: StatFreak on November 14, 2010, 04:45:29 AM :238- cupcrazy :88-
I don't have the Bally game book at hand right now, so I can't look it up. I can confirm that the 81 is a dead battery. The battery is located on the MPU board, which sits in that removable tray located under the reel shelf. It is normally soldered in, unless someone has already replace it and installed a battery holder. It uses a 3.6V lithium battery. I can't tell from the picture whether it's a Bally 5500 or 6000. However, once you change the battery you will need to perform a SafeRam clear. If you have a 5500 with older software you will be able to do this by simply setting a jumper. If you have a 5500 with later software or a 6000, you will need clear chips. :211- of the front of the machine and of the inside. You can attach two pictures per post, and you're welcome to post several times to add more pictures. ( 5500 ) Might be the same one, I don't remember who I sold it to. If I owned it at one time it will have 920000 in it. If I remember right it's a whole lot like Haywire but a real strange pay table.

Title: Re: please can someone help Post by: cupcrazy on November 14, 2010, 09:51:17 PM it is a series S5500. that is what it says on the inside of the door. also, the chips have the number 960000 on them. does that mean i need the ram clear chips???
Title: Re: please can someone help Post by: jdkmunch on November 14, 2010, 10:10:46 PM Did you replace the battery? And the question mark is a valid theme - it's not generic. I loved playing them.
Title: Re: please can someone help Post by: cupcrazy on November 14, 2010, 10:19:01 PM no, havent had a chance to replace it yet. also, what is the name of the game. and do you play it at a casino currently
Title: Re: please can someone help Post by: jdkmunch on November 14, 2010, 10:23:25 PM I played that at the Sans in Atlantic City. It hasn't been around for years. I haven't seen any Bally 5500 in service at a casino for some time now. As for the official name- I don't know I always called it question mark.

New battery and clear chips and you should be up and running.

I hope this is a given, but please make sure that the machine is powered off when removing or inserting the circuit boards, otherwise you'll quickly have bigger problems than just a dead battery. Title: Re: please can someone help Post by: StatFreak on November 15, 2010, 01:50:49 AM Yes, with the 96000 chips you will need to buy a set of clear chips. When you swap chips, make sure that you insert them with the notch pointed in the right direction, otherwise you'll risk damaging the chips.
Since you have a 5500 and not a 6000, I highly recommend soldering in a battery holder instead of soldering the battery in directly. These things eat batteries and you'll be replacing it every 1-2 years (as opposed to every 10-15 years or more on other machines.) I also suggest taping the holder to the outside front of the tray with double-sided foam tape (or whatever), with leads running back to the original location. That way, the next time you get an 81 error you'll be able to swap the battery with the board in place and the power on. If you do it before the battery dies completely, you'll avoid having to clear the machine and re-configure your your settings. It also saves the bookkeeping values (no one cares about this around here but me. :5-) |
