My s+ machine only makes sound when the reels stop.  Ive set the dipswitches for spin and stop sound, but all that is happeneing is it makes the volume for the credits going in and the reel stop much lower.
any ideas???

The dip switches only apply to some SP chips -- newer SP chips require some programming using the self-test button.  Please tell us what SP chip your machine has, and we can help you make the adjustment.

Also, there is a small blue knob that sticks out of the metal tray that is the volume control -- you likely bumped it when you had the board out causing the volume level to change.

i am new to all this tech stuff, so please bear with me.  if i am reading the right chip it is : SP1271, ( the other chips' label is peeling so its very hard to read. i think it says SS 3656 but the last number may be a 4 cant tell.
also, i know about the knob, it is turn on max. but when the switch is set for spinning sound, the other sounds are lower.  i switched it back to just "reel stop" sound and now its loud again.  as if there was some kind of voltage drop for the spinning sound, but the sound not coming out.  wierd right.

oh well, im fine with tjust the reel stop sound if that's all i can get

What's weird is that the switches are affecting the sound at all: The SP1271 doesn't use the switches. All of the settings are in the test/setup menus, which you access by pressing the white test button next to or behind the power switch.

The volume knob on the S+ gets sensitive with age, so you'll find that there's one point where the volume suddenly drops out or gets very loud with just a tiny change.

It's more likely that your volume is set at that crucial point and is being affected by your handling the board.



To turn on the reel spin sounds on the SP1271, press the test button twice. You should see a "2  0" in the winner paid window and a 0 in the coins in display. Press the spin button once. The display should change to "2  1". Then press the white test button several times until you exit the menus.

You must have no credits on the machine to make this change.

Adjust the volume (blue knob) as necessary, keeping in mind the sensitivity issue. It sucks, but you'll have to play with it until you find the volume you're comfortable with.

Also, be aware that the S+ is not capable of producing more than one tone or sound at a time. What IGT did was to compromise. If you have the spin sounds turned off (as you do now) you get a reel stop sound out of the speaker. However, when you turn the spin sounds on, the machine will trip the handle release solenoid to produce a fake stop "sound" when the reels stop, because the machine is incapable of producing a spin tone and stop sound from the speaker at the same time.

There is a section there that allows you to check what chip numbers your have in your machine without looking at the physical chip.

Case in point you can stick any label you want on the chip but whats programmed on the chip is whats programmed.

To be entirely clear, that's a joke.  The misguided guy in the video (a few posts up from here) thinks that's how payback is adjusted, but he's wrong.  On the IGT S+ machines, payback percentage is controlled by the programming on the SS chip, not the volume level or dial position.

I think I've played some of those machines. The dial always seems to be low.
My machines don't have a dial, they were missing, like something in his mind.
