Title: Where can I get some shiney new .984 BRASS tokens?
Post by: Bigcheeze on November 17, 2010, 10:57:54 PM
Where can I get some shiney new .984 BRASS tokens?  I have found new silver ones, but not shiney new brass ones for a 25 cent slot.

Is there a reason for the choice of brass over the silver color tokens?

Is it a personal preference or do the brass tokens function better in your machines?

I'm planning on purchasing tokens in the near future too.

Yes, it is a persoanl preference to use the brass tokens.  My Big Cheese came with 1 token in the coin acceptor and it was a nice shiney brass one with nice graphics on it.  I have a lot of used silver ones for my pachislo machine and the brass tokens look so much better.  I don't know how long they would stay shiney, but the 1 token that I have does look good.

At first I was surprised that all of the replies came in personal messages direct to me.  After thinking about it for a while, I thought that the replies might be coming from those who sell them.  I don't know what the rules are on this site about selling within posts, so I just thanked everyone for taking the effort to reply and contacted one.

When I contacted him, he told me that the brass tokens are not as reliable as the nickel ones.  I seem to recall he said the coin acceptors had more problems with the brass tokens so he didn't sell brass tokens, only nickel tokens.  I am new to slots and he has experience so I placed value in his opinion and purchased the nickel ones.  The personal messages that I received priced new brass tokens at $120 - $139 per 1000.  Another site that was recommended had them for $99 per 1000.  But, like I said, when I called him, I learned that they were not brass.

The site that I bought them from is: www.slotmachineswholesale.com

At first I thought I had hit the jackpot.  (nice pun) The website has a note that all accessories (including tokens) are half off.  They show that 1000 tokens are $99 so I thought that I could get 2000 tokens for $99 but I was told that $99 is after the discount.  If so, then their normal price is $198 which makes their tokens the most expensive, but at $99 they were the cheapest.

I don't always buy stuff based on just price.  But the websites don't show an actual image of their tokens.  (I must admit that one site did).  I would have paid a bit extra for some impressive tokens, but without images, I just bought based on price.

Since the personal messages sent to me are 'personal messages', I will respect their privacy and not post their responses.  Though I do think it was ok to list the site that I chose to use.

I hope that is sufficient.

I responded to your post after you mentioned .. came up empty.

I quoted $120 per 1000 for new 0.984 brass tokens including shipping.

They can be purchased directly from the manufacture, Tokens Direct. Their price for the brass token price is 0.136 each with a 1000 minimum plus shipping. Purchase 10K from them and the price drops to 0.105 each ($1050 plus shipping). More than 10K tokens the price per each really doesn't drop much. They also sell the nickel tokens which are brass tokens with a nickel plating. Minimum order for the nickel is 5000 at 0.151 each. There may be other manufactures that sell nickel plated tokens which could be plated over cheap steel.

IMO .. brass tokens work just fine with the coin comparitors in slot machines. I have not had any customers say that their tokens were being rejected. Maybe the sensitivity needs adjusted?

Nickel tokens cost more at Tokens Direct so you got a good price at $99/1000.

Jim

Ken,  you beat me too it,  I have never had any problems using brass tokens, have ordered thousands from Osborne, I save on shipping because I can drive down to the factory and pick them up.

Great posts guys!  :3- :131-

I really like those brass tokens...
I think I'll get some made!

Do they come in a smaller quarter-like size?
No problems with the coin comparitor?

I bought 2000 Cherry Tokens from PokerSuppliesCo.com.  Got them for $100 shipped!  Very nice tokens and I haven't had one get rejected in my Game King or my S2000.  The only thing that I will warn against, and this could be why the price is a bit lower, is that they are just a scosche bigger than a quarter.  That said, I had to file down a bit of the lower portion of my quarter head backplate in order for them to fit.  Can't even tell that it was done once reassembled.

Great products and value if you don't mind a bit of modification to the backplate of your coin head.

I got a few for a jap slot and they were steel core.
I couldn't use them due to a magnetic rejector.
They wouldn't work in my old Bally.

They make a 0.900. If the pinwheel is for a quarter the 0.984 tokens will work. Coin head needs to be a #12 .. same as a quarter. No problem with using them in a Coin Mech.

They do a real nice job doing custom designs. Die fee is $195 per side. I had some dollar size tokens made several years ago where I only had one side with a custom design.

I use to sell the Cherry tokens since the price was REEL good. Stopped selling them because some of them would rust and just wasn't worth it any longer.

Wow, I can't imagine how they would rust, unless they sat out in the rain or were in in an unbelieveablly humid environment.  We're extremely dry where I am, but nonetheless, I'll watch for it.

Thanks,

I don't use tokens...although I have thought more about it lately.
Even though I use genuine coins, I still remove them from the hopper, clean the hopper and optics and give the coins a tumble in my brass cleaning
vibrator (tumbler). At least once a year usually twice in corncob  media.
I put a dash of flitz polish in it and they come out shiny new... I reload lots of ammo too,   :107-       so I have the equipment, but you can get a cheap one that
would work at Harborfreight or the like...

Hmmm, what to say and how to say it.

My 2000 tokens arrived today and I must admit that I am disappointed.

There were 8 bags in the box which means that each must have 250.

The first thing I noticed is that all but a few had Japanese (?) characters on them.  The second thing I noticed was that 4 bags are used tokens, 3 bags are new, and 1 had mostly new.

I immediately went to the slot machines wholesale website and reviewed their ad for tokens.  It does say circulated though I can't actually believe that I missed that.  I did call them before ordering and I can't honestly say that he stated they were new, though I really had that in mind which is evident from my previous posts.  I honestly don't recall if we discussed what they looked like.

I am not trying to post something bad about www.slotmachineswholesale.com since it appears to by MY misunderstanding and poor eyesight.

As you recall, I started this post to find some brass tokens, just because I think they look great.  So now I have to decide what to do.  It appears that the best choice is to order some from Ohio Gaming.  His price was $120 per thousand for new brass tokens.  In a 2 way conversation there would be an "I told you so" inserted here. :)  But before I do order some, I have to deal with 2 problems.  First is telling the wife that I need to spend another $240 for more tokens.  Especially when she saw that I just got the ones that I have been waiting for.

The second issue is a bit more complicated (skip this part as soon as it starts to bore you).  A few days ago I somehow got the idea that I wanted to buy a Wheel of Fortune slot.  Immediately I started looking for info on the web.  I found confusing information about them so I put another post to this forum and they straightened me out.  FYI, I think the information was confusing me because the Cash Wheel slots are sometimes referred to as Wheel of Fortune slots.  I decided that since I couldn't get a real Wheel of Fortune, I would go for a Cash Wheel instead.   Bettorslots.com has 2 in stock and more coming soon, and at a good price.  So this morning before heading to work I said to the wife "I think I am going to buy another slot machine".  She rarely has a problem with buying new toys, 'cause she likes playing them too.  She just reminded me that cash is lower than usual due to Christmas shopping so I should start setting the money aside.  So the issue is whether to buy another batch of NEW BRASS tokens now or keep my focus on buying the Cash Wheel, hopefully next month.  It might take me a few days to decide.

I do want to reiterate that I am not complaining about slotmachineswholesale.com ... They sent me what they listed on their website at the price that was listed.  Maybe I should write a letter to my optometrist.  Obviously this isn't my fault so I will blame him.

Does anyone know where I can purchase $5 tokens without having to buy them in 5000 count lots?  I checked the tokensdirect site and their cost for 5000 $5 tokens was a whopping $875.  Ouch!  This is 4 times more than I paid for the slot machine.
I tried looking at other sites, but they did not sell the larger tokens.

I should add...  Ohio Gaming is out of the token selling business because the cost of brass is too high.

Are you dead set on $5 tokens or just big ones?  Like half dollar size? If it is a hoppershelf/ wheel thing I can help you there and I have a good source for great 50 cent size new tokens. Very reasonable price and shipping. I picked up 4000 for my lone ranger gameand did not hurt the pocket at all !!

Good news!  Ben from FanniniSlots was able to assist me with resolving my coin comparitor issues and sold me the $5 Tokens I needed for my machine.  I installed a new battery and used the SafeRAM Clear Chips (from Rudysdeals.com) to reset the machine.

Bad news:  Upon fixing all of the issues with my machine I determined some of these may have been caused because the previous owner put a one dollar coin head on the machine, by mistake.  He then struggled to get it working and eventually gave up.  The machine must have sat in his basement powered off for years.
So now I was wondering if any of you would have (or know someone who has) a Bally 5500 $5 denomination coin head for sale?  I took the existing coin head off and the slot machine looks and works great.

I have been searching high and low, but cannot find the correct coin head for sale online.
