Title: adding back lit reels question
Post by: coorslight115 on November 18, 2010, 01:55:55 AM
I know this has to of been covered, but i can not find it. :25-

I have a s-2000 upright without back lit reels, I want to add them.

I have located the reels, the harness for the reels, the correct 3 reel backlight controller, and the harness from the controller to the machine. Do I need anything else?

And where do you mount the backlit controller board, and where does it plug into the machine?

Backlight controller mounts to the back wall of the cabinet behind and to the upper right of the hopper. There is a plug that goes from it to the cabinet I/O board. a plug from the reels to the backlight controller. A plug from the reels to the motherboard. And you'll find a power plug for the backlight controller bundled in with the wire harness that passes just above where the backlight controller is mounted to the back of the cabinet

Great  :3- That explains the 4 sockets. Waiting for packages now.
 :204-

It might just be me  :208- But the S-2000 seems to be a lot easier learning curve for me from the s-Plus.  :71- :91-

LOL! Seems easier because they're a lot more fun :3- Is your backlight controller coming with the mounting plate and cover? And you might locate and pull out the power cord for that while you're waiting. Once I had all the stuff together it took me about 15 minutes to get it put in and get it working. You can have the reel strips on the backlight reels and the reel harness switched out ahead to save a little time. What machine are you putting them on?

Tim the one thing I ran into the other day is, backlit reels that have light bulbs use a different controller than reels that use a LED panel. ( The Skipper posted this little fact ) I would say the odds are you will not have the LED panel lights, out of 45 S 2000's I only had one with panel lights. ( but I only had one 4 reel machine )

In case you missed the thread or have forgotten let me WARN you not to install LED lights behind the coin ledgen ( center reel glass ) or as a BV bezel light. If you do smoke will appear. Trust me been there done that. Besides they look like crap.

They are going into an upright s2000 9". All the stuff is coming from the same person/machine. Reels have bulbs. And yes the controller has the plate and cover. Thanks and no to the leds!

Wait a minute... The backlite controller has 4 connectors, one to the reels, one to the i/o board and power. what is the other for?

Coors,
Do you know the part number of your back light controller?
I can search and see what the other connector is for?

Off hand however,
you think it's for the LED lights around a bonus reel ?

Oh!  :299- I have one of those in my machine!

I'll be right back!  :273-

The bonus reel led board has a 24 pin molex so I don't think so.

upper left is power, upper middle is from the reels and lower left is to the I/O board. Don't beleive you'll use the upper right, but I'm not at home to look at one

The question is:
What is it for? lol
It's a 2-row 8-pimn Molex board header.

I will have an answer...shortly.
But I have to go somewhere.
Maybe somebody else knows while I'm gone...lol

I beleive it's called the "whatsamafucker" plug. :103- IGT used those for the specific purpose of creating confusion :72- :72-

They seem to be a very common plug on slotmachines. Oddly enough they come in both genders and can be found hanging around all over the inside of an S2000 cabinet :257-

That is why these machines multiply when left alone in the dark. That is their reproduction plugs  :97- :97- :97- :208- :208- Just keep a eye out for stray extension harnesses :97- :97- :279-

Lower left to I/O board ? Point me in the direction of the I/O board I am looking for. Don't want to plug it into the wrong hole !! :208- :208- heard that before! :30- :30-

With out rereading this whole thread. The IO that the backlit plugs into is on the outside of the MPU housing ( for a better word )

Cabinet I/O board mounted on the side of the mpu enclosure

Thsi could be a new topic...but I won't go there ...YET :208-

Just cleared all credits off the machine and used my new Key chip. to enable the coin mode. All went well. Put $5 in the machine and played for 10 minutes. I guess a Key chip has the same powers as a clear chip in an S-Plus. you hit all the jackpots after using one. Look below :97- :97- :97- :208- :208- :208- :200- :200-

My Tabasco hit for 900 right after I put the backlit reels in. They like it when we treat them well :97-

The weird thing is when I put in a 4XPay game in mine -
I hit like the 3rd highest payout in a few spins.
I flipped the accounting key and saw that the machine's
current % rate was like around -137%...negative!  :208-

Figure this one out   I was testing the machine when it hit this one.  I still can't figure out why it payed 11 thousand credits.

Ok first glitch, Before I dive in I will ask :89-  On boot up after the key, I get netplex stating printer #2 installed and the printer will no longer print. It will advance a paper in the printer test. and the bezel is lit and flashing rapidy. First guess would be to remove it , disable it and boot. Then install and enable it and reboot. Am I close?

I'm not sure, I don't think I've ever saw ( seen which is it ) a number before printer. Did you enable the printer when you did the first key??  I don't think you said you did a clear, maybe it's something the casino had in the machine.

Figure this one out   I was testing the machine when it hit this one.  I still can't figure out why it payed 11 thousand credits.

That's easy...

9 X 60 X 20 = 10,800 (3X 3X Triple 7)
3 X 5 X 20 =       300 (3X any 7)
Total Win:      11,100

The other odd 300 credits come from any 2 3X symbols on a line, I can't make out the payline numbers in the paytable

Really?  I have LED lights in my coin/denomation legend and 2 in my BV bezel....no smoke.  Do you have a link to the thread?  Anyone else using LED lights in these spots?

Dan  A pic is worth a thousand words.  Yours truly and a LED did this to this board.  I'll try to find that post for you tomorrow.

I am using LED's in my BV Bezel not in the denom light (looks like a spot light behind denom with LED)
I do have the WBA Sentry installed instead of the standard bezel so the LED's only illuminate the Bill Entry.

As Buzz showed me, the issue is that those sockets have two long copper tabs that each cover one full flat side of the base of the bulb. Some LEDs (not all) have two wires that each wrap around both sides of the base. Some are designed so that each wire wraps up on only one side.

If you insert the type of LED whose wires wrap around both sides of the base you will short out the socket and fry the seven segment board. Those LEDs are tiny and they all tend to look alike, so unless you're VERY careful as to which type you're inserting (or you clip the second side of the leads on an offending LED before using it) you WILL fry something.
