Title: S2000 Vision Sound Post by: cowboygames on November 23, 2010, 03:42:25 PM I thought I saw a post awhile back about using the speaker plugs on the back of the lcd display instead of the amp board. I moved the plugs for the upper speakers to the matching plug on the back of the lcd, no problem. So I moved the plug for the lower speaker over, but I can't get any sound out of the lower speaker this way. What am I doing wrong? :103- And where does volume control come from when the speakers are wired this way? Thanks for any help :89-

and the 4-pin Molex is plugged into the back of the LCD computer - are you hearing different sound bytes playing from the tray speaker as opposed to the ear speakers? Seemed like the old post was giving this as a way to eliminate the amp board. Come to think of it I didn't even look at the MPU to see if it had a mml board and simm plugged into it. The sound had to be looped through the MPU when the amp board was hooked up though because I had volume control in the software settings before I bypassed the amp. Now it's fixed level, but a very usable fixed level

LCD volume that controls the output of your speakers plugged into the back of it. With the door open, press the little white test button to get into the LCD settings and look for the LCD Volume control option. The game sounds are stored on both the PCMCIA card and SB chips. The Vision doesn't really need the amplifier board anymore when you're hooked into the LCD computer for speakers. I noticed that my 2-pin tray speaker was very very low in volume when plugged into the LCD computer. I think it really requires a different harness so I wired the 2-pin tray speaker wires ( green to green and green w/white stripe to green w/white strip) parallel into the top 2 pins of the 4-pin Molex next to it. Boy that sucker was loud! lol My wife heard the thing BOOMING from the other end of the house! LOL I found out later that there's a built in amplifier on the LCD computer board from TZ tech! Maybe that's why they put amp boards on these. I think I'll try the splicing like you did. Did you end up having to do anything to try and lower the volume on that speaker or did you just leave it?

I will fool around with it some more in a couple of hours after work and see if I can get the sound down to a more acceptable level when it's hooked up that way. I just stuck a couple of wires into the top of the 4-pin Molex connector into the LCD computer from the 2-pin tray speaker harness. There's no plugs occupying the 2-pin connector coming out of the LCD computer and the volume is set to a comfortable [3] in the "LCD Volume" settings on the LCD! I have decent sound coming from the tray speaker now. It's not too loud either. The "Game" volume" and "Money" volume" settings don't really work because nothing is connected into the amplifier board. I looked at TZtech's hand drawing from another thread a week ago and I didn't try that yet. However, sticking 2 wires into the 4-pin Molex does - for now... until I make a totally different harness later on to try and follow TZ's drawings. We don't have any information as to what all these connections are for on an LCD computer board yet. COM1 is a 4-pin header ( 2 white wires & 2 green wires) that goes to the 4-pin Molex then down into the machine onto the Communication Interface Board on the left side of the Power Distribution Module on the back wall of the cabinet behind the hopper. I see the 4-pin J5 power header you're talking about and it looks like it would fit into a regular desktop power supply plug. The big long J13 & J14 AMP connectors are for a MMBII Lite sound board for the DSV SIMM sound cards. I've tried that already but didn't get it to put out any "enhanced sounds". There's 3-pin headers on the bottom for H5 VGA (LCD screen?), H6 AUX ( auxiliary hard drive?) , and H7 Keyboard & Mouse. I have no clue how to hook those up yet either. At least, not with 10 pins! lol A small J15 header looks like it would be for a power switch and hard drive lights like on a desktop computer cabinet. Also there's a 9-pin COM2 header...connects to ??? J1,J7 and J8...also no clue... The only thing we know at this point is the JP1 jumper let's one view the boot up screen. I'm wondering if the JP3 jumper enables the MMLBII piggyback board w/DSV SIMM sound card? The JP2 jumpers (3 of them on the header) is missing a chip at the U61 location as well as at the U62 and U54 locations. Looks like maybe the later version could of had those locations occupied with IC chips of some sort. Before I switched everything over I had a plug from there to a matching plug on the amp board. I just assumed it was the tray speaker output. And the one labeled netplex on the drawing is a 25 pin computer plug on my unit. Goes to a piggyback board screwed to the back of the LCD housing and my trim lights are plugged into it also.

to the amplifier board is the one I don't have. I think that 2-pin harness was needed for the Vision games that did NOT have the sounds built into the PCMCIA cards? The trim lights were really for the Reel Touch versions of the S2000's I think. The opening on the older Vision glass in the topbox were just large enough for the LCD screen to peer through. Later on, they came up with the trim light bezel that went around the LCD screen and added a touch screen face. I'd like to see a photo of the bolted on piggyback board on the back of your LCD computer. It may be helpful. I think you really have the newer Reel Touch version rather than the older Vision platform. I'm not sure really because of the 10-pin Netplex Molex like I have, coming out of the back of the LCD computer where I labeled it. Again, I stress the fact that I don't own a Reel Touch version of this platform to confirm this. It looks like it's a driver board for the light trim that surrounds the front of the LCD screen. That's a cool driver board really - it acts in conjunction with various game play and controls that light trim to add effects! Now I know what that gaping hole is for on the back on my LCD computer...lol The light trim driver is being powered through the bottom 2 Molexes I see (red,orange,and black wires) I can also see the control harness swinging around up to the the light trim bezel. It's strange that in order to get any bass sound from the tray speaker that we would have to jump the 2-pin speaker wire into the other 4-pin. I found in another drawing that indeed that 2-pin goes back to the machine I think, into the amplifier board (AGND/960AUD) or motherboard perhaps? with a 2-pin speaker harness like you pointed out earlier. You have one - I wonder how long it is and if it just plugs into the amplifier board or rather, all the way down to the motherboard? That tray speaker's volume may then be controlled through the sound settings in the options. It may not need the 2-wire splice we made. Like I said, I will attempt to construct a speaker harness like TZ tech's hand drawing and see how that works. I also received an old set of LCDCD-ROM wiring drawings from another member and will fill in SOME of the blanks on the drawing I made in Reply #9. I'm still trying to locate the schematics for the LCD driver board though. That may take some time as it's hidden in cyberspace somewhere...lol I will fix this photo tonight...
