Title: need help with Willams "winning streak" slot will not accept coins or dollar bil
Post by: jswanson33 on November 24, 2010, 06:23:14 PM
Hi,

I have a 1996 Willams "Winning Streak" slot machine that was working great. It was playing fine on credits but now all of a sudden it will not accept a quarter in the "Coin Comparitor" and it now will not accept dollar bills either. I put a dollar in and it reads it then goes "beep" and spits it now. No matter what bills I use they are read and then rejected.

When i open the door and slide the "Coin Compariitor switch it drops the quater out, but the switch in the coin compaitor module does not let it reset at an acceptable opening to allow the coin to be dropped and credited. I took the coin comparitor module out and re hooked it up and the green lLED is lit green. but no luck.

When i power down the machince and restart it it comes up clean "no errors" anywhere so I am confused on where to begin trouble shooting it as the only common thing all of a sudden is that it will not accept coins or bills and give no error codes, any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to  :nlg-!

You need to have a quarter sitting ("stuck") in the coin comparator in order for the machine to accept coins.  As I read your post, you said that you removed the coin from there -- slide the thing to the side and properly seat a quarter in there.

The green light on the comparator will only come on when the game senses that the door is closed and there are no other tilts.  On the lower right side of the door is a white switch that tells the game that the door is closed.  With the machine powered on, pull that switch out towards you -- you should feel a "click" -- that will tell the machine that the door is closed (even though it really isn't), and the green light on the comparator should come on.  Does it?

If not, is the "Insert Coin" light lit on the front of the reel glass?  Are there any tilt messages in the LED displays or on the Dotmation screen?

Congratulations on a simple fix for your machine!   :244-

No, you don't owe anything, but you are encouraged to hang out here on the site and learn more about your machine and other slot machines.

If you'd like and you're able to, you may make a voluntary donation (there's a link in my signature or at the bottom of every page) to help support the site and help to keep it running for others to get support for their machines, but it is not required.  The folks here will continue to provide support whether or not you contribute to the site.

Congrats again on getting your machine up and running.  We'd love to see some pictures of your game!

Hi,

Thanks again I just made a $25.00 paypal donation to the site thanks to your help. I have only these two slot machines but i have over 100 coin op machines from the early 1930s mostly gumball and peanut and match machines. I like old coin op stuff. I am trying to attach some pictures now. The older machine my dad gave me, and I have never seen another one like it in person at any show I have ever been to. So if you have ever seen one or now anything about them even a value for insurance purposes would be appreciated.

thanks again

Fantastic stuff.  I like the new green "Contributing Member" badge next to your username!   :244-

I have a friend who knows a lot about older slot machines -- I'll e-mail your picture to him and let you know what I find out.

Jeff-

Here's what my friend had to say:

I have not seen this model before, the case looks like mid to late 1960s with an all mechanical mechanism. Could be something Jennings had made custom for a casino or possibly a revamp.
Jennings were used a lot in Reno later on, sometimes revamping old 1940s and 1950s mechs into newer cases, well into the 60s and 70s.

I would guess a value around $700.00.

jswanson33   No one addressed the problem with your BV, good place to start is by cleaning the BV optics. Do a search and you will find most will recommend a glass cleaner with NO alcohol. A old slot tech told me he uses a secret solution H 2 O.  ME, I spit on a rag and smear my DNA all over the optics.

Assuming that you have a DBV 145  your going to pretty much  stuck with using the older bills. With a DBV 200 you will be a lot happier with the newer bills it will take. I don't think you will get either one to take the purple 5's,  If you start looking for replacement parts for your DBV  Bally 5500 BV's are the same as Williams.

Coin comparator, I think the book calls for a 12 volt for a Williams, I've had a CC 16 D 24 volt in a Big Bang Pig for over a year with no problems with it.
