Title: IGT S+ - paying to much!!!
Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on November 30, 2010, 03:29:17 PM
got a customer who has a S+ TD - tells me he has a 85% chip and the machine just keeps paying (winning combos).  If he (me) did a clear - would that get it back on track or ???

Barry,

yes It would start it off from zero credits in etc and start bookkeeping  all over if ram clear was done
and this would also clear the mother board also .

check on self test mode to see the number of the chip displayed in slot window while machine is up and running
>>>>>DONT AWAYS GO BY THE STICKER ON THE EPROM !!!<<<

see if it in  fact a 85% payout ..

but honestly it could just be going through a PAY  PHASE ..

but the ram clear never hurts any machine ..

I agree with Rocket -- make sure that the chip number in the self test display matches the label on the chip, for starters.

Second, a RAM clear will not have any effect on the long term payout percentage of the game.  The machine is just as likely to "go cold" tomorrow whether you do a RAM clear or not.  If it will make you and/or your customer happy, do it, but it won't change the odds of the game.  In the short term, it's entirely possible for an 85% game to pay out more than a 99% game.

Third, your customer has an 85% chip and is concerned that the machine is paying too much?  Is he running an illegal casino in his basement?  That's bad news, man.  :60-

Most machine homeowners want the highest paying
chips possible so they can have more fun with it... :89-

The only ones who don't like that are casino owners/operators perhaps.
Personally, I like middle of the run % chips or difficult ones
because I want the same effect I get at real live machines and
losing credits in these suckers  feels  more authentic... :72-

machine is being used - lets say - not at home - so the 85% is supposed to be good for the not at home situation -  it has been paying off to the point machine had to be unplugged for awhile.
will double check the % although he does know of what he speaks.   CLEAR looks like the way to go.  thanks all.

CLEAR looks like the way to go.

Clearing the RAM will have zero effect on the payout of the machine.  It may pay less after you clear it, or it may pay more.

The fundamentals of slot randomness is simple.
The slot picks 3 numbers. Any 3 numbers.
If these 3 numbers compose a winning combination the machine pays out.

To generate a 85% chip or a 95% chip the only thing that changes is the total number of winning sets.

To test the percent payback the machine is run through a consecutive series of 10mm spins.
Each of these tests MUST result in a averaged payback that conforms to the designated payback.
Once the test is complete the chip is then certified by the Nevada (or other jusdiction) to conform to that payout.

There is absolutely NOTHING other than sheer randomness that would either prevent (or cause) a machine to hit the top award everytime or never.
There is no algorithm that says force it back into a state of compliance. Its just 3 numbers that come up roses or not.

To camp on to the last post - a clear chip wipes the CMOS which clears out stored accounting information, and features such as the hopper settings, reel noise, bill validator settings etc. It will have zero (0) impact on how the machine is paying. There is no CYCLE or any other RNG related setting that gets reset.

Hope this helps.

I believe in randomness of the RNG and that it's tested using 10 million pulls,
but how much do you wanna bet the machine
hits the Jackpot in less than a couple of thousand spins after  he uses the Clear chip?  :72-

It's just one of those weird things that seem to happen
with S+'s that NO ONE has been able to verify or explain...
sounds like a job for "Myth Busters" !  :96- :200-

Fitzgeralds Casino in downtown Vegas used to have signs on certain machines proclaiming "This machine has paid over 100% last month" as a ploy to draw more play. I'm sure it was true too. It happens, even to 85% chips. That's why they have several slot machines to ensure a steady revenue stream. Having just one or two slots and expecting a cash cow may just bite you in the  :265-

  :79-  I say charge him/her $100 to "cleanse" the machine.  :97-  :79-

I agree with Knagl, "Thats bad news, man"

I seriously doubt he has an 85% chip. If I ran 85% in my gaming lounges I would be out of business, those machines would be too "tight". I run 90% and sometimes just for a sale a vendor will tell me the machine has a 90% chip in it and I later find out otherwise. I would just send him an authentic 85% chip.

Why not just turn the win dial down a bit.  ;)
