Title: basics of S-2000 repair help needed
Post by: badbaud on December 11, 2010, 03:55:43 AM
Got a S-2000 into the shop - my first - error message is "low battery".

Both batteries read less then .1 VDC so I was planning to replace them.

I have no schematics or clear or set? chips for this game, what do I need, or need to do, to get the game back up after I replace the two bad batteries?

You'll need a key chip, you've got mail.

Clear chip is a good idea too...if needed.  I think the 97 is pretty common.  That's what I use.

I've had an S2000/Vision that goes from Vision to S2000 and back every couple of months when I swap in one of my 8 game kits. I've had to replace the batteries as well, never needed a clear chip.

I'd be willing to bet that clear chips (and their usage) may be mandated by gaming commissions during some procedures but I've never seen a problem fixed by using one...

I've had to use them on Game Makers, and the Bally 5500, and the S Slot but I can see the migration away from their necessity in the newer games. Thanks for the info.

If you read some of the old post you will see that you don't have to replace both batteries, the big battery can just be discarded unless you plan on a hook up that monitors door open when the power is off.

Not yet. We did 6 service calls in 8 hours and never got back to that end of town. We will try again on Monday. Vegas traffic sucks.
