Christmas is about here, but I was curious what toys you guys played with as kids.  I played with Star Wars action figures, GI Joe (the kind with the velcro'ish hair and beard), and Atari 2600 was a serious vice of mine as a wee lad.

I spent many hours on one of these.....

My favorite toys from my childhood were the Red Line Hot Wheels with the orange track... Now I collect them...  :270-

Being a little older and thus before video games etc., this was my favorite as a kid

Here's a Blast from the past

I showed my father this clipping from a comic book and wanted to build one.
For Christmas, he brought me home a brand new orange Benelli 50cc with the gears on the left handle!
The handles folded down and you could fit it into the front trunk of a 1968 Porsche Targa!

Just a bit of trivia: Did you know that the forerunner to the Rock-em-Sock-em robots was invented by Edmund Fey? It was a coin-op machine! 1926 KO Fighter:

That's awesome Reed.  I had no idea that existed.  The engineering, detail, and imagination that went into the mechanical arcade games from way back are amazing.  Even the variety and imagination of the video coin-op games in the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's were so much better than today's stuff.  Current home console games certainly have eye appeal, no doubt.  I went to an arcade the other day for a few minutes to kill some time before our movie started, and it's a shame what they've turned into.  Overpriced crane/carnival type games, and the coin-op vids are either fighting, driving, or dance type games...that's it.

Oh yeah, Stretch Armstrong was another favorite of mine.   :89-

That was one of my favorites too! Living in Mich. I remember my oldest sister in Calif. sending me the orange track with curves and a loop. Those were not even available in Mich. at that time. Everybody came to my house to play with the hotwheels. 

AFX Slot car tracks, Evil Kenevil stunt cylce, ssp smash up derby, and any toy my friends had that I didn't have.

Actually, I was a skinny 9 year old and it was in Palm Springs north of the airport. My grandmother's house was about as far north as was developed, so there was just miles and miles of open desert to ride in. Good Times!  :89- :89-


There's one more toy I can remember, but I can't find anything on the web. It was a model of the Seaview (submarine from the series "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea), and it was powered by Alka-Seltzer. Pop in a couple tablets, drop it in the lake or bathtub, and it would cruise around for 2-3 minutes... One of the best toys there was back in the mid-60s.

Make that three of us! I started out small, but after a few years I had tons of orange track, two or more of the rubber band kickers, two single deck power houses and one double deck, at least one or two loops, two or more jumps, and all the 60°s (were they? :128-),  90°s and 180°s I could ever need. By placing the power houses and kickers at strategic locations, I could create a massive track that went through two or three rooms and keep the cars going as long as we kept resetting the kickers.

My favorite car to just play with (no track) was the Twin Mill. It kind of looked like a bad a** version of a Corvette. :96-

I also had one of those plastic car storage things that looked like a wheel/tire and had a handle. It only held a few cars, though.

Jason, I remember playing an Atari 2600 at a close friend's house while we were on acid. I was an adult and it wasn't the exact year they came out... I've leave it at that.
I guess my memory of playing that game is quite different from yours.  :97- :97-

OMG Statfreak you actually played outside... Lol  Today's kids don't have a clue how to keep them self's amused unless it plugs into a TV or comes out of a computer. I'm reliving my childhood by collecting all the red line hot wheels again. Only thing is that it cost a bit more today to do it. Those cars from the 1960's and 70's sure have gotten expensive :116- My favorite car was the Fleetside and Cameros.. Here's a few more pics of what I have...
