Title: Personality Error on Power Up
Post by: Puff on January 17, 2011, 05:06:34 AM
The game is called "Two Jokers Wild"
Model Number is VPOKOP-10
Mfg Date is 05/94

The Main Board is AS-3356-203H
U10 is MV580808-02
U11 is VP327A00-58
U20 & U21 are GPK5115
U88 is LPK5115

Any ideas on where to start looking?  :103-

Maybe this post did not make sense so I'll add a few more details.

When I power up the unit, the only thing that appears on the screen are the words
"Personality Error".

The game used to work, so all of the Proms, etc are correct for this board and machine.

I have not found any posts on this issue so I don't know where to start looking to resolve.

Found a little more information...

"Personality Error = The "personality" EPROM is not the same as that at first power-up. SAFERAM procedure must be completed to clear this tilt."

So, Does anyone know how to do a SAFERAM procedure?
Is their a Clear Chip I need to obtain?

Does this also mean I should replace the Main Board battery as it is not holding the CMOS settings?

No reply's but I finally got the problem solved.
Figured I'd post it here so if anyone else has the same issue they might be able to use the information.

Took a meter to the CMOS battery and it read 0.0 volts - so that explains why the CMOS settings would not hold.
Got a new battery and installed it.

Also, found a clear chip on the Web - for this model machine it is called a "Bally Video Poker U-10 Clear Chip".
Replaced the program chip with the clear chip, powered up the machine and it displayed

"Clearing Saferam"

and then

"All Saferam Clear"

Shut the machine down, switched back to the program chip and powered up.
Now all is well and the machine is happily eating coins at an alarming rate.

Puff, sorry no one got back to you on this one.  I'm glad to hear that you got it working, and K+ :259- for letting everyone know. :3- :3-

Just to let you know, if you have a 5500 ProSlot, it will eat through batteries at a rate of about one each year, or two if you're lucky. You might want to do a search here and install a battery holder for quick replacements in the future. It also helps to put the holder on the outside of the MPU frame so that it can be changed with the board in place and the power on to prevent having to do future SafeRam clears.

If you have a 6000 ProSlot, disregard all of that. :200-
