Title: help newbe with Fortune 1 please
Post by: newbe on January 18, 2011, 02:03:49 AM
i have a fortune 1 nickle poker. When i drop a coin it does not show coin in, the machine will not start. The screen is fine and everything appears to be ready, just that no coin will register. I see a red light on 2nd from the top of 4 lights in the back of the machine. Can anyone help a newbe to this?

thanks

I know next to nothing about Fortue 1s  but look at where the coin exits the coin mec. and you should see a small trip wire/micro switch that counts the coins in.  I believe you can operate this switch with the door open. Wish I could be of more help.

Take something metal and jump across the two electrical connections at the micro switch. That will at least tell you if the switch is bad.  If you have a Multimeter that would be even better to test with.

Sounds like you have 3 tabs....how many wires?
What colors are they?

3 wires, one tan for "com", one black for "no", one brown for "nc"

Why a micro-switch for coin detection would have 3 wires is beyond me... :25-
You'd think there would be one wire on the NO tab and one on the Com. tab so
that when a coin went through there - it would close the circuit once to send a credit to the MPU.

You're going to have to wait for someone that knows more about these old Fortune 1 machines.
I'm not entirely certain whether or not this micro-switch works while the door is open.
It could explain why there's an extra wire?

Let me ask you something though.
As you drop a coin through it, does the coin actually move the wire lever down?
Or is it bent out of shape or jamming up?

that board is the I/O board for the machine.  anytime you press a button or activate a switch the lights correspond with a code. four lights, 1,2,4,8 type logic.  don't remember which codes correspond to what.  will have to check my manual.

Jim

see if anything changes when you press on the trip wire, if not then check all the connections to that board. everything goes thru that board.

Bunker The ones I have, have NO door switches ( cherry ) and NO optics.

newbe  I have one of these machines that was working and the graphics messed up, anyway I just went out and got it working. I had a error of "coin in timed out"  I don't have a jackpot/reset key so I opened the MPU door and  pressed the bottom micro switch at the key switch. This cleared the coin error and I played one hand. I then tripped the small wire with my finger and it added 5 credits ( with the door open ) With a messed up button deck and a bad hopper, it hit 3  10's so my testing has come to a end untill I fix a hopper.

This is good info Buzz,  :89-
I didn't know whether or not that trip wire would work w/the door open.

thanks for all the info. I did trip the wire and it still wont show credit, however i removed the wires on the switch(3 of them), cleaned them re installed the switch and ran a coin through the wire while the door was open, it worked. I dont know if the wire was not hitting right or the connections were bad, but its working. Thanks for all you help, you guys are very knowledgeable  :131-

newbe   That's just to show you how gullable you are, you had two dumb s**ts and one expert on his way home from work helping you. All BS aside I'm glad you got it working.  Now what parts are you lookind for ??

For what it's worth, if your machine is like the ones I have, it doesn't know if the door is open or closed. no door switches.

I can only assume I'm one of the dumb s**ts...!!! :97- :72- :208- :30-
I don't know a thing about Fortune 1's... :5-

I don't have a manual and I've never read anything about them.
I just figured they worked sort of like the late 80 IGT's but I guess
they're more like the old Cherry Masters...lol

Mark just you and me. The only advantage I have is I have about 12 of them. I must say then are on the back burner for me to work on.  Did you ever see a hopper this small?

lol...yes, in a Japanese pistachio plastic slot machine in some store in Vermont.
I swear it probably holds only about 25 dollars in quarters!  :97-

My God! the pinwheel was made of plastic! I couldn't believe how sh**ty it was.
The store owner has a sign on it for sale at like $400.00 bucks...!?!?
I bought an ice cream cone and walked out...lol
