Title: sound goes in and out on s2000
Post by: jer3270 on January 21, 2011, 03:51:05 PM
I've recently bought a MAG 7's that was sitting for about 2 years (finally got it going! thanks SAMRON SLOTS , BUNKER , BUZZ and everybody else  :244- :244- :244-) Now the problem is the sound  :279- I tried another amplifier board in the top right of the top cabinet and tested all my wires going to the mother board from the amplifier and everything checked out. The sound fades in and out low then loud static and clear. If I turn the volumes up it will come in and out more frequently but still the same thing. I've also tried changing from stereo to mono with no change and it"s in all speakers not one. I have a TOP DOLLAR can I take the light media board out of it and put my MAG 7's sound board on the lite board without screwing anything up or re-raming the whole machine to see if that's the problem ? Or does anyone have any suugestions on what to check out next? THANKS! for the help? you guys are great and make us home slot owners a lot more comfortable about trouble shooting are own machines!  :131- :131- :131- :131- :131- :131-

You can switch your MMII board .. remember to move sound simm to other board.

It was the MMLBII?
I would have suspected the gold tabs on the DSV SIMM card.
Guys use the back of a rubber eraser to clean the tabs.

Well , that kind of worked.I have used an eraser on them 6 times now and can get about 5 min. of game time in, and it starts it's fading in and out again. Good tip though thanks!!! :244- :244- :244-

Then it must be the MMLBII board...
Probably some IC component blowing out of specs due to age and heat.
Sometimes you just gotta throw things in the garbage and get new ones.
I wish I would have taken up board-level repairs in school....lol

Bunker Maybe it's the SIMM that's bad.

Hummm!!!!     speakers work,  you replaced the in line amp- no change, you swapped MML board- no change,  were the MML boards alike?  did you try the simm and the MML as a pair from the Top Dollar?  Did you run the machine without a MML and see if the audio still faded?  don't forget the board will produce sounds depending on the chips installed, those sounds are sent to the in line amp and then on to the speakers. there has to be audio circuits on the main board as well. how it distinguishes between the two sets of audio ??  I don't know that.  but the machine will in fact produce audio without the MML board installed.

P.S.  before you get to energetic with your eraser, make sure it is a pink eraser.
