Title: Bally 5000 DEAD please help
Post by: windip on January 29, 2011, 11:26:00 AM
Hi,

when I switch on my Bally 5000+, the display says "Remise a zero", witch is french and means RESET or resetting. After a while the display changes to some funny characters (U's and arrows)
There is no function on the rest of the slot.
Both red LED's on the MPU stay on.

I replaced the battery (NIMH) and there was some acid from the battery on the board, witch I cleaned.
It looks OK to me, but I,m not sure.

My questions:
Do I need to replace the MPU? (expensive if available at all)
Is it the Display or the IO board? (I don't think so)
Could it be, that only a RAM clear is necessary (with clear chip and keypad)
Should I forget the slot, make a bar and put some drinks inside?

Any ideas?
I'm appreciate any advice or hint!

I,m a technician but have no experience with Bally slots at all.

thanks
Peter

Hi Peter, and welcome to NLG :88-

We were down for a couple of days :37-, so I'm bumping this for you. :71-

If you haven't cleared and setup the machine after the battery change, and if you have the chip and keypad handy, I would try that first. If that doesn't work, then I'd take a closer look at the traces and components on the board to see if the battery did any damage.

After that, I'm going to leave you in the hands of our Bally 5000+ experts.

Thank you for your Answer!

Most importend for me would be, if is worth trying the clearchips and the keypad, since there is not even an errorcode on the display!
I would have to buy them parts for $50 - 60.
I have checked the board and cleaned and resolderd everything possible. I don't think there is much more I can do.  (it seems to be multi layer)

Please excuse any errors in my writing, English is not my first language...

Thanks in advance for any help!
Peter

Hi Peter,

Looks like your machine is a 5000 with a vacuum display
Try the following to clear the ram:
You don’t need clearchips – the keypad is only necessary if you want to change the game options

Switch off - remove J1-15 and place it on J-14
press and hold the pseudo-coin button and switch on
when the "SAFERAM ENABLED" message appears, quickly press the test button and release the pseudo-coin button.
switch off when "SAFERAM CLEARED" appears
replace the jumper – switch on – the normal game conditions must be back

it normally works with main progams ME600002 (you have 600001)
