Title: Classic slot's DESTROYED 70 yeras piror
Post by: joshmail on February 12, 2011, 12:34:39 AM
Thought this might be interesting to some folks. December,28 1937 sheriff Abbot of the Monterey co. sherriffs office in Calif, bust up a old slot machine with what looks like a rolling pin? Thats right 25 slot machines valued at $1500 at that time where destroyed. If you like I can post some more pic's? I got this about 15 years ago when my Mom re-did the flooring in there rental that was about 100 years old. i was not into slot at the time but things that take your money alwalys have, parking meters-pay phones-slot machines, dont get me started.

Are slots allowed in California now?

It did, didn't it?  :200-

To get back to the original post, it would be great if you could take some pictures of those old newspapers in good light without flash so that all of the details could be read. It always interests me to read old newspapers; they provide a window into the past.

They can be pretty big -- up to just under 3 MB per post.  Right now it looks like your camera is set to take pictures that are 640x480 -- see if you can increase that to a larger size.

Each picture can be up to 3MB (that's actually 6MB per post). The number of pixels doesn't matter. So in this case, large pictures with slightly lower jpg quality that would bring the file to under 3mb would be idea. There are a number of free programs that will let you adjust the jpeg quality without lowering the pixel size if the camera's original output file is too large. Irfanview is one of them. Here is a link to information (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=3304.0) on how to download and use it.

The instructions only discuss resizing an image, but if you look at the settings you will see that you can actually change the jpeg quality -- using a slider -- without changing its pixel size. That would be the way to go with these newspaper pictures IF the original camera files were over 3mb. I would decrease the image quality a little bit at a time until I got the best quality file that would fit, since we want to be able to read the articles.

And I would love to see old San Francisco newspapers. :89-

:259- joshmail for offering to post these.

I think I'm going to split this thread.
