Title: Reel problem with adhesive tape Post by: peachpit on February 21, 2011, 04:26:01 PM Hello,
i own a Bally S9000 5-reeler. I have bought new reel strips without adhesive tape at the ends. So i bought double sided adhesive tape and sticked the ends together. It worked good but after a few days the ends come up slowly and dispersed a little bid. Anyone has an idea to stick them together so that they will keep sticked together...? It is a little too thick for me so I use double sided scotch tape cut in half legthwise across the whole bottom of the strip. @ reho33: The ends of the reel strips are looked into the reel shelf, but in the middle the strips comes up after a while; even i have fixed it with adhesive tape.... :103- @ Magicslots: Do you think "Scotch tape" is the best one? I dont know about Bally etc.
I have used both Scotch brand and others with equal success. The trick for me is to make sure the strips are cleaned of old "gunk" before applying the new tape, and touching it as little as possible to avoid contaminating the adhesive. I have used it and it works well :89- It is a little too thick for me .... The trick is to not use it all the way across the strip. I cut mine about 1/4" from the inner edge of the reel. Never had a problem with the 3M poster tape even on stuborn strips that are bent. Title: Re: Reel problem with adhesive tape Post by: Op-Bell on February 28, 2011, 12:36:28 AM The adhesive generally used to join reel strips is 3M Adhesive Transfer Tape type 467 (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3M-Industrial/Adhesives/Product/Catalog/Detail/?PC_7_RJH9U5230GJJ60IS8FSO6Q3GD3_nid=82GJS2SSH7beZV5WZ3NX25gl) or equivalent. This appears to be a one-sided tape, but the backing peels off after you apply it leaving just the adhesive, which can then stick to the other surface. It starts off low-tack so that mistakes can be corrected, but the bond strength increases over a few hours until it's almost impossible to break it. Since it's just the adhesive with no carrier film, joints can be very thin.
