Is their a description or pictures that tell what each board is on the S2000 machines? or their definitions
i want to identify each board and what it is used for.

Here are two different S2000 boards.
The one without the handle is a 504-b board.
The one with the handle is a 1270 board & is newer than the 504-b board.
If you notice they are not interchangeable.
On the back of the board where it goes into the machine the two pin holder are two different sizes.
I hope this may help.
Both boards have multimedia sound board on them.
One has six screws, the other has only two.

To be clear, however, there are other 50x boards that look nearly identical to the 504 Rev. B board that is pictured.  You have to look at the markings on the board to determine if it's a 502A, 504A, 504B, etc.

On IMG 4613 that was posted above, that's a 504 B board (according to IFFV68) with a Multi Media Lite 2 board mounted on it ("MMLII").  The MMLII board is for sound, and is SIMM based (that is, it uses a long stick of what looks like computer memory for sounds).  There's also an older Multi Media Lite (MML) board (not very common to see) that is EPROM-based for sound, so instead of the long slot for sound SIMMs, it has typical EPROM sockets.

Here we go...
S2000 Boards
MPU board- 502, 504a, 504b or 1270(enhanced) are the typical boards
Backplane or Motherboard- MPU and other listed boards plug into this
Communications Board- Part of the Power Distribution Assembly mounted next to the backplane and plugged into it by ribbon cable
Cabinet I/O board- interfaces backplane to reel backlight control board
Reel Backlight Control Board- munted behind reel deck, controls reel backlighting
Door I/O board- interfaces player panel to backplane
Amp Board- located in topbox, takes sound feed from backplane, amplifies it and splits it to the 3 standard S2000 speakers

*There are two differant boards that can be piggybacked on the MPU. The 500 series board CAN use a Multimedia board for sound enhancements, but doesn't have to. The Enhanced MPU HAS to have the legacy adapter board if it's to be used in an S2000 as it holds Game, Base and Version chips. In addition this, the legacy board must have a simm interface eeprom inserted if a sound simm is to be used

So here is my problem. I have a 1270 enhanced board and I have done a clear on it but I cannot get it to the key position.
I have a key 31 and when I install it I never get the 2 amber lights whick will allow me to do the set up.
I have also tried a key 40 and 45 and nothing works.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

This has happened to me, except I couldn't make either chip work.
First double check, I believe it's 20 pin connector, isn't loose. To install the chips can be a problem. You may have to remove  the six screws on the board to get enough room to make sure all the pins are in straight.
The out side wall is tight & if it doesn't go in flat, then you have a problem. Mine had a loose 20 pin connection. They can be fix. I always use a flashlight to make sure.
Also the clear 97 & Key chip 31 worked for me.

It depends on what chips you have in the machine to accept to Key.

this board does not have any game chips it is a flash unit so I do not know which key to use.
