Title: Error 12 for the 1st time
Post by: rickhunter on September 16, 2008, 01:24:13 PM
Ok, so I get my newly purchased Rapid Jackpots Kit home and do the kit change, power up "12".  First time ever that the battery runs out on me on any of my S+.  So because all these bateries are just soldered in a while back I decided to put sockets when the battery died to avoid this sodering issue again.  So here's my MPU Battery mod:

This is the link for the parts:

I also got the battery cover 108C which is not pictured in my mod.  There are two legs that come straight down on the ends of the holder, you need to bend these out so they lay flat, and then solder them to the square pads on the MPU board.  Took me like 1 minute to do.  Pretty easy mod.

I just did this mod. Very easy and cheap. Thanks for the tip.

Good Day

I'm new to new life games site, I have an IGT  slot machine was my fathers he passed away and now it's mine  the error code 12 was present when i plugged it in.  Not sure how long the code was activate.    I replaced the 3.6v battery and the code remains.. what can I do to resolve this ?  does this remaining error code 12 relate to memory loss on the processor board.....and if it does mean this ...how would I go about correcting this issue  ..
thanks for your help.. I look forward to being a part of this forum..      Jim

Holy thread revival Batman!
Rick posted that about 4 years ago!    :5-

By any chance, did you install the battery backwards?  :103-
The error code [12] should go away after the completion of one full game.
The bottom lamp on your candle should be flashing as well.

When you close the door, does the reel glass display panel go out momentarily then come back on?
Watch the front as you push down fully on the the door latch.
I want to see if your door optics are working.
That's the easy way to check it.
If so, the display should go out for about 2 seconds then come back on
and after a few more seconds , be ready for coin acceptance.
Sometimes the reels do their "maiden backwards spins" - sometimes not.
It depends on what chips you have installed.

As far as memory, everything was wiped out when you removed the old battery.
Code [12] only means that the voltage of the battery dropped below a certain threshold.
If the game does not start at all - then it's remaining below that threshold number and needs replacement.
I've had machines with code 12 that actually went away without changing out the battery.
However, it wasn't very long before the error came back and I needed to replace the battery with a new one.

Remember, the more details you can give us - the better we can help you out!

I had a few minutes to kill...
I took out my MPU from my test machine, unsoldered the battery, flipped it around
and soldered it in backwards.... :79-
I couldn't get rid of the code error [12] either...  :72-

I took the MPU out again, unsoldered the battery, flipped it around and re-soldered it again.
I re-installed the MPU again and flipped on the power switch.
The error [12] remained on the display but when I closed the door, the display went out for about 3 seconds.
It came back on and the game was ready to play!   :71-

That means either your battery is soldered in backwards
or your door optics are not working correctly to send a signal back to the MPU -
unable to send notification to the MPU processor
and have it verify that the door optics should be in a closed state.

                                    or

Basically...uh... something's screwed...  :5-

Get a meter and check the voltage of the battery. Nothing saying you didn't get a dud. Here in canada, radioshack is dead and now called the source. Even more  pathetic than ever....  Anyways the date code on 3/4 of the batteries was 2008 and they were 19.99 ouch.
