Title: 956 wont payout
Post by: arfulruf on March 14, 2011, 08:56:08 PM
hi my  bally 5 coin machine only pays out as if one coin was used. it takes up to and including five quarters but any win pays at the one coin level. this is a triple-bar seven only machine. :99-

no im still as baffled as ever. could it be a CR relay thats bad? The lights will advance on the feature when another coin is added. as five the five coin limit is reached no more quarters are accepted but it still pays out as if a single coin was staked. im using a new wiring diagram and color code chart i bought for this model. i also have the bally manual #2400 that includes service instructions. i feel i am able to follow most advice offered with these tools. i just dont know where to began.

Well, i now have successfully replaced the spiral cam in the hopper payout unit. The old one had broke in various places.  however i still have problems with run-out of the hopper.

there are two areas that you should be looking at!.  the first is the odds disc unit.  from what you describe the lights are advancing and the max coin is working. this unit is located in the back ,on the right hand side.(bottom)  it can be removed and checked and cleaned .
the second unit is the multiplier unit,  it is located in the upper left hand area of the machine, it has plastic wheel drums that turn. look to see if this unit is resetting and advancing as to the amount of coins you are putting in.

from what you describe this unit is staying in the reset position (one coin )  as this unit advances it puts a different countdown drum in the circuit, they are pulsed by the coin output switches.

Well Jim, thank you for the advice. Ive just put my machine back together. ive cleaned and inspected both units you spoke of. and you were correct, the one coil X2 does not reset or advance, or so it seems. Can you or anyone else share how these units operate? I can make them advance by using a grounded jumper wire across to the coil on the units. There was a time when this 956 slot would only pay out as if two coins were put in no matter how many, (1-5) i would use. Now it pays at the 1 coin odds only. Im using this machine every day and i will never sell it, I just want it to work like it did when it was back in a casino. Quotes for work on this machine locally (I think San Diego Slots??? was the name of the place i called) were well over $300 and was reluctant to even look at this model  because it was not in "as found" condition and was a wide "low-boy" slot. I would rather keep after it until  i fix it. Being retired Ive got nothing but time. I  want "her" to work. Yes my slot has a name BAR_BAR_RA.
