Title: Grrrr...Craigslist scams - not slot related Post by: poppo on March 21, 2011, 09:38:53 PM Like to saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true....
I have been looking for an ATV for use on my property. Yesterday I spotted what seemed like a steal in the local listings (San Antonio TX area). It was for a 2009 Yamaha Grizzly 550 EPS 4X4 Automatic ATV with a plow and only 89 miles for $2500. :71- So of course I jumped on it. I sent an e-mail right after it was listed and then another one from a different e-mail account just in case one got marked as spam or something. Today I received this exact same reply to both of my e-mails. :182- "Hello and sorry for delay, Thank you for your interest in purchasing my 2009 Yamaha Grizzly 550 EPS,plow ,4X4 ,automatic with 89 miles. The title is clean and clear. The atv is still for sale and it is as good as it looks. I have decided to sell it for $2500 and the buyer will receive it with all papers and receipts that he needs to register it so if you buy it you don't have to worry about the paperwork. Also you will have 5 days to inspect and test after you receive it. It was my father's but unfortunately he can't use it anymore as he died 3 month ago. I moved back where I was born in Provo,UT and now it will be shipped from here. Please get back to me for more photos and only if you want to buy it. Thank you, Debra Hoeck" Yeah right. :60- Of course the listing is gone today, but I'm sure someone fell for it somewhere since it was probably listed all over the place. :30- Well, at least it was not located in Nigeria. :72- Title: Re: Grrrr...Craigslist scams - not slot related Post by: StatFreak on March 21, 2011, 09:43:38 PM Cash and carry might be a good defense against these scams. No shipping, no checks, no BS.
Title: Re: Grrrr...Craigslist scams - not slot related Post by: poppo on March 21, 2011, 09:52:22 PM I suppose it 'could' be legit but I really doubt it. Why would anyone need to list something like that in another city or state? I would never buy something that I could not see in person on craigslist where you have no protection.
Title: Re: Grrrr...Craigslist scams - not slot related Post by: poppo on March 21, 2011, 10:03:35 PM Ugh... Here is another one.
http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/tid/2276939077.html (http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/tid/2276939077.html) The plow (besides the price) is a dead givaway on this one. The pictures on the other one looked rural, where you might actually use a plow. But not much use for a plow in the city of San Antonio TX. :60- And this one shows up every few days with a different e-mail address. :47- http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/mcd/2278557533.html (http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/mcd/2278557533.html) Title: Re: Grrrr...Craigslist scams - not slot related Post by: Magicslots on March 22, 2011, 12:06:23 AM This same schmuck has been running this ATV scam for several years. He lists it about every 2 months or so here in the DFW,
area. He always has some reason that we cant meet to see the vehicle. Funny how it's always a Grizzly... :96- So when I see it pop up, I feed him a line about how I am looking for one, etc etc. Its fun to jack with these as____es! :97- :97- Title: Re: Grrrr...Craigslist scams - not slot related Post by: StatFreak on March 22, 2011, 12:42:35 AM Poppo, both of your last examples are gone already. :30-

Last one of those I got, I replied that they could trade me $75 worth of cash for my item :200- :72- (never click on the link :60-). I also got one that requested I text them at a 15 digit phone number. :5- yeah, right! :30- Title: Re: Grrrr...Craigslist scams - not slot related Post by: Brianzz on March 22, 2011, 09:06:56 AM If you really like messing with people, you can get lots of tips and material here

I didn't realize that some of this scamming was so rampant. :5- I don't usually use craigslist for anything except for slot related items which so far seems to not have anything fishy other than people asking $1K for a pachislo. :30- That is how I found my last S+. I just recently started looking at the ATV listings.
