Title: WMS Jackpot Party Dot Mation Problem
Post by: dragster73 on March 22, 2011, 09:27:00 PM
I just changed over a Riverbell to a Jackpot party. Everything is good accept for the bonus round. When you stamp a square the square will turn half way and the wait about 5 seconds to fully turn. Once this happens the stamp continues to move but you can not stamp another square until the first square has flipped completely. When you hit the square with the word "POOP" it flips right away but still takes about five seconds to catch it and stop the bonus. All other functions are good.

All EPROM's are original WMS Rom's and all of the have the correct checksum. I tried a different I.O. board and that didn't help. I also cleared the CPU more then one time and that did not help.

There is a older post regarding this however it never said what the problem was.

Here is a link to the old posting.

Yup... Kevin hit it on the head. I went through the same problem a few months ago.

Ok, with a little work today this is what i found.

The Two Rom's in the dot mation were.

xu3 v1.02 checksum 96FE
xu4 v1.02 checksum 4BA4

These files ran fine accept for the stamping of the box's.

I changed the two Rom's
to another set i had saved and now the bonus does work however the hand scrolling along moves very fast. I remember that the hand would start out slow and the get faster the longer you sat and did nothing. Anyway it now works but the hand moves at max speed right from the get go.

So there has to be something different somewhere. The Rom's i used that were not working were pulled from my working machine about a year ago when i changed it to a Jackpot Stampede.

I currently have Jackpot Party (the traditional one -- not Beach or Country), and I've never seen the hand start off slow and then move faster -- it's always moved at the same speed across the board.  Is it so fast that you can't accurately pick the boxes that you want to pick, or is it just fast enough that you have to be on your toes to select the right box, but it can be done?  Mine is the latter.

Edit: CFH posted a video of the bonus round on his machine.  It does look like the hand picks up speed just a tiny bit after the first box selection (maybe mine does too -- it's pretty subtle unless you're looking for it).  Is your machine's action comparable to the video?  Mine is.

See the video here: http://www.pinrepair.com/slots/wms/jackpart.htm

(Click on the link where it says, "See a movie of this game working here.")

My Game is moving almost three times faster then what you see on Clay's web page.

I can pick the Squares however you are lucky if you can get two on the same line before it moves to the next line. the game is playable now however something is defiantly different.

Even when it shows the pay lines on the DMD everything there is faster there. It alternates over the pay lines three times faster then it used to.

I am figuring that there were different speed eproms maybe based on the DMD brand itself? Maybe different manufactures display's are faster at reading the data then others.

With the files i had i had two different XU2 chips for the CPU  one being 92% and the other being 96%. I tried both of them and it made no difference.

It appears the speed is all in the DMD controller and the display itself.

Mine also picks up speed as the Jackpot Party Bonus game goes on. If I remember the one I played at Binions Last Weekend on Fremont Street stays the same speed during the Bonus round.

These are the two sets of chips i have for the DMD.

Xu3 To fast. Checksum 9AFD
xu4 To fast. Checksum ACA6

xu3 To Slow. Checksum 98FE
xu4 To Slow. Checksum ABA4

The "To slow" chips have Factory stickers on them.

Does anyone have files saved that have a different checksum then what i listed? If possible i would like to Know if the exist.

At Binions??  :103-  Are you thinking of the Las Vegas Club, by chance?  I think LVC is the only place left in Downtown that has any Dotmation machines on the floor.

I understand your intentions, but trading or discussion of trading EPROM .bin files on the site isn't allowed.   :60-   The best I could suggest would be to post a "WTB" (Want To Buy) ad in the classifieds section to see if one of the vendors who frequents the site might be able to sell you a set.

It is actually Fremont Casino not Binions, sorry.

The Las Vegas Club, with the pole dancers on the tables, has Big Bang Piggy Bankin, Jackpot Stampede Deluxe, and X-Factor.The  Fremont, with the Babes that stand out in Front giving out beads, has Jackpot Party, Jackpot Beach and one other that I can't remember off hand. These are the only 2 casinos that I have seen on Fremont street that have the 400 Dotmations. I was just there last weekend with the lame excuse that I needed to play these games because I just got the kits. The wife went for it but I think she just wanted to shop the mall, which he did. I'm guessing I didn't trick her but she tricked me.........

Fremont doesn't have any babes out front with beads (unless they've recently added them?  That doesn't seem to be their style, though.).  Perhaps it was either Mermaids or La Bayou (same ownership -- one is across from the other -- Mermaids sells deep fried Twinkies, and La Bayou is very narrow and sells those giant yards of margaritas in the back) -- both have "showgirls" out front with beads.  I've really never had an excuse to spend much time in either of them, so that explains why I didn't know there were more Dotmation games downtown (so thank you!).  Do you recall which casino it was based on my descriptions?

Yep those are the 'Babes with Beads' casinos. The corner one has the Jackpot Dotmation games. The Las Vegas Club is on the same side of the street on the corner from the one that just closed. I need to pay attention to the name of the casinos instead of the babes. The skinny casino still pays out in coins....

I would be interested in solving this problem for myself and for others in the future. I really am more interested in knowing if there are other version other then what i listed. I'm not really asking anyone for files. If they exist then i would persue them through proper channels.

Problem Solved!!!!

These are the two sets of chips i have for the DMD.

Xu3 To fast. Checksum 9AFD
xu4 To fast. Checksum ACA6

xu3 To Slow. Checksum 98FE
xu4 To Slow. Checksum ABA4

Using The DMD chips labeled "To Slow" required a certain xu3 chip in the CPU
The checksum of that chip was "ECA5"

The chip that gave me problems with both sets of DMD chips listed above had checksum "9411"

Wow, congrats, and nice detective work!   :209-

So, to be clear, the XU3 on the main board (and NOT the Dotmation box -- so stupid of them to have a socket called XU3 in two different locations, but I digress...) was the one that was giving you trouble, and the main board XU3 with checksum ECA5 solved the problem?  Does that ECA5 work with both sets of Dotmation box chips you have?

K+ to you (your first!) for posting your findings.  Thanks.

Yes!

No! the set labeled "To Fast" was still to fast.

Haha, well, an A+ to you, also, but the K(arma)+ is the best thing we can do for you -- it raises your Karma number listed by your name.  Thanks for the added info.
