Title: Internet Explorer 9.0
Post by: cowboygames on March 29, 2011, 02:39:36 PM
Has anyone else upgraded to this yet? I was a little skeptical, but it seems to work well and I really like the way it doesn't clutter up the top of the screen with toolbars. Much better use of screen space on this one :89-

I was reluctant to upgrade to 8. I was running 6.0 just fine and only upgraded because some banking sites require it. I also heard I.E 9 was going to require Windows 7 or better. I'll keep running XP until something forces me to change. I HATE WINDOWS 7!!  :276-

I had a lot of trouble with Vista, but Win 7 has been running pretty well. Any problems I've had have been traced back to my daughters web browsing (i.e., facebook and associated sites) and inviting malicious software in. She found the "setup tools" virus a while back. That one's a pain in the a$$ to get rid of :30-

I just hate the way they moved EVERYTHING around. I have always run XP in 'classic' mode. I have Win 7 on a PC that is acting as a media server and I can never find ANYTHING since they removed the 'classic' mode from it. I don't need a dang 'wizard' every time I want to change something.  :60- And I absolutely HATE the start menu. What happened to the old saying that if it isn't boke, don't fix it.  :30-

I think what happened was after Windows nt and millenium additions, they couldn't convince anyone that something from Microsoft could work without problems again :71-

I never had a problem with NT  4.0 or Windows 2000.
Neither one was designed for gaming or heavy multimedia.

I never had too many issues with millienium (ME), a few of my friends hated it.

I beta tested Windows 2000 Server and workstation, Windows 95 OEM SR2(1111), 98 and 98 SE, and ME, XP as a MS Beta Tester (not public betas)

The Windows 2000 kernel was the starting point for the XP kernel.

I am using Vista on a Second system, it is being used to test the SAS dll, program chips, or other things when I need a windows machine.
If I want to run windows 7, I reboot my main computer into Windows 7, its main OS is Mac OS X.

Yeah, we ran NT on all of the company computers for several years and rarely had any problems. Windows 2K was rock solid. XP is ok, but took a while to get the bugs out. From my experience all of the Windows platforms are only as stable as the amount of garbage software you load onto the machines. We had a very strict software policy, and thus rarely had any issues.

You guys are computer gurus and know what to avoid and what will work well with a particular system, so from your end they probably WERE good systems. As an average idiot user I ran into many problems, particularly with updates. 95 was a really good system, but there weren't nearly the number of sinister sites and hackers back then.
