Title: Bally E 1000 code 41
Post by: bikerbawb on April 04, 2011, 02:49:13 PM
Can anyone define what "improper reel spin" means. It comes up as error 41 on my E1000 machine. The reader cards pass test five so I'm sure the cards are OK. although I do get intermittent failures on reel one when doing the manual test. After resetting everything it usually plays very well until I shut it down. When I fire it up again I start with these reel failures. This machine was stored for a very long period of time. I've cleaned everything the best I could without removing every nut and bolt. I'm  wondering if a sluggish reel mechanism could be creating my errors. They seem snappy enough to me. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

Hello... Your code 41 means that there is a problem with the reel reader on the #1 reel. It could have a weak photo trans, thats what sees the light, or it could need to be cleaned and adjusted.

Intermittent problems can be a bear!! All my voltages are where they are supposed to be. The manual tests pass. I'm getting another reader card in a day or two and will swap out the card and see what happens. Thank for the input.

What you can do while your waiting for the replacement reel reader would be to swap the 1st and 3rd reel reader to see if your problem moves to the 3rd reel. If it did the first 2 reels should stop and the 3rd one would continue to spin, giving you a code 43...

I came home from work last night, turned on the machine and played it for an hour or so with no issues. Go figure. Still, I don't have a lot of confidence it will continue to function properly all the time. We'll see what happens.

Might try a little wd-40 on the reel arms. A little goo can keep the arm from moving back and forth fast enough. And cause a reel error. It has happened to me many times good luck.

Yeah, I went back and cleaned everything and replaced the intermittent reader card and all seems well now. I found a place that sells photo transistors for 59 cents each. I bought a handful and will fix the the spare cards I have. It can't hurt to have a couple extras lying around. Thanks everyone for you input.
