Title: double jackpot haywire question about reel eproms
Post by: pauvil on April 12, 2011, 11:12:09 AM
I have a double jackpot haywire with a 27c64 reel eprom. I picked it up dirt dirt cheap because the  dreaded 62-1 error code comes up. On the cover of the board is written 4/2/05 SS4871. I'm wondering what my options are as far as a new eprom. Could I go with and what would be the benefits ,if any ,if I went with a 256 or 512 chip? Also what are the differences in the ss file numbers? something to do with payouts?

Thanks

No benefits in going with the higher capacity eprom, but it's a good way to get around not having the correct capacity eprom.

The different SS numbers reference the fact that the different chips have different payback percentages. Unlike the S2000 which has several different payback percentages, the S+ only has one per SS chip, so to change the percentage you must swap in a different one.

Using a 512 or 256, I would try to stick to the 27c512 if you must pick one.
Either use a offset c000
or use a dos command to make a 64KB file used temporarily

copy /B SSxxxx.bin+SSxxxx.bin+SSxxxx.bin+SSxxxx.bin+SSxxxx.bin+SSxxxx.bin+SSxxxx.bin+SSxxxx.bin SSxxxx-64KB.bin

Then use the resulting 64KB file as the file for your programmer.

Note in case the chip is being used in a S2000 no need for offset or the 64KB file just load and program the file starting at 0000.

One slight problem you might run into.   SS4871 is the reel chip for Red White & Blue Deluxe 3 coin 85.244%    :279- :279-

What Game chip do you have ??

I would suggest post a Pic. of the machine. SS4781 is for a 2 coin Triple Sapphires.   What are the number's on the SP (game) chip?

Sorry my mistake its an ss 4781 on a 27c64. So what would be the reasoning any, for even going with a bigger chip? Also is there any way to tell by the numbers what the payout and what the pay out percentages are. In other words what if so do the numbers stand for if anything.

Thanks
Paul

The chips themselves dont say anything I can barely make out the numbers of the chips as far as the 27c64 goes. They have white tape covering the windows. I'm just going by what is written in marker where the gaming comission tape seal was. The date is 2005 as well. I will check for sure later and let you know. Its a 2 coin double jackpot haywire. 10 mhz board. I will take a pic when I get home later.

Thanks
Paul

27C512 chips are generally easier and cheaper to find. And it's easier to manage things if all of your chips are the same (reel and game). Functionally, there is no difference.

You can use the self test to determine exactly what is in there.

For what it's worth, trays and chips get swapped a lot.  What's written on a tray doesn't always mean that's what chips are in the sockets.

As well as the DIP switch settings.
