Title: DBV-145 to DBV-200
Post by: twizz63 on April 22, 2011, 03:24:13 AM
I have a IGT Double Spin that has a DBV-145 validator. I want to upgrade to DBV-200 and I do have the power supply with vents. If I purchase the 200 validator and switch it out, will it still require other parts to initialize? What should I expect to pay for this upgrade? Thanks in advance for assistance.

Make sure you get a DBV-200 SS with ID 22/23
No other parts needed to do the swap.
No need to get another transport unless you want one for spare parts.
unplug the 2 connections on left side of the head, and one on the right side may be behind a shield.
undo the middle screw that between the 2 larger screws
if needed move the bill entry to the DBV-200
re-install the head and plug in the 3 connectors.

If you are looking to buy a DBV-200, besides the ID numbers Foster mentioned, you may want to see what version of firmware it has. The latest version 2.61 (or 2.60) will take everything except the new $5s. If the DBV has a eprom in it, you can swap it easily enough. If it has a flash chip you may need to send it off to have it updated unless you feel comfortable cutting it out and putting in a socket and eprom. The point is you may be better off spending an extra few $ to get one that is already updated.

Thanks dod....I have no idea where is best place to purchase DBV -200 yet. Where or whom would you recommend for the proper updated DBV? And I would not attempt the board work myself. I do solder and have the tools....I do have some junk I practice with......I have several pinball machines . I would like to buy one that I can swap easily as Foster explained. Thanks for the help.

One of the vendors at the top of the page can probably help, and most should have the latest update or be able to do it.

Wouldn't he be better off upgrading to a WBA BV instead? Little more expensive I know, but I thought the WBA were a little better unit too. Just a thought...

would that unit be a simple swap as well?....Is 85.00 about what I should expect to pay for JCMWBA 13? If it is similar simple swap then I will do that..Thanks

The WBA swap is much more complicated and needs more parts than the DBV-200.  It's not really that hard, but the DBV-200 swap is really as simple as described above, so by comparison it takes a lot more.   :30-

I'm sure one of the vendors can get you the right DBV-200 that will just plug in.

I guess my only point was that any DBV200 he buys will be at least 7-8 years old or so, because that's when they REALLY quit using those. Whereas a WBA could be as new as 2-3 years. Just one mans opinion...

I would just go with the DBV-200. Mine are working just fine and can be found dirt cheap.
