I need new legends for my S2000 buttons, they are yellow and bleach doesn't whiten them......so is it cheaper to just get the legends or the whole assembly?

IMHO...new legends improve the looks a great deal  :5- Provided your clear lens covers are not all
scratched and schmutzed up too much. First I went to leds, then new legends, then new caps.
This was on my S+ buttons, but the same thing holds for S2K's as well. The suppliers here can probably set you up fairly reasonably on either.
Legends only probably a bit cheaper. If you can get a good deal on all new buttons, etc,
then go for it, and you have more spare parts to store   :97-

Any chemicals or "tricks" to getting the yellow out of the legends?

I tried bleach...hydrogen peroxide...several different soaps with mild abrasives on the backs only, and even scraping
the backs with a razor blade. Not enough improvement to make it worth the effort!  :25-

It seems that eventually the incandescent bulbs cook the plastic, and its yellowed forever.

How about the multi-denom button insert?

That one is blue in color and does not show any damage, like the change button.

Cheaper but probably not bettor. In my opinion and experience by the time a button cooks long enough to yellow the plastic housing is baked enough to be brittle and just a problem waiting to happen especially if your still running incandescent bulbs.
