Title: Double Diamond reel strips
Post by: B-52BadByron on April 26, 2011, 01:56:55 PM
I have a Double Diamond 3 line 3 coin game. Chips are a 3741 reel and a 731 game, could someone tell me the correct number on the Double Diamond reel stripes that I am suppose to use?  I currently have 85882500,600,700 in use but it doesn't seem like the correct strips. Thanks

85882500   85882600   85882700 are the correct strips in that order left to right. Can you verify in the self test that it is a SS3741. Also is this a upright or slant top and do you have the correct reels for the machine?

You can also go into the self test and do a reel strip test.

Self test shows 3741 and 731 on the machine.  I don't know how to verify the correct reels.  The machine is an upright, how do I do the reel test?

If they are the same reels you had before and they worked, then they are probably fine. The PSR for the SP731 is lacking on info on how to do the reel strip test. I'm not sure if it's the same as on newer SP chips. Maybe someone else will know how it's done on that chip.

What makes you think the strips are not right?

Its under options or i/o test  it will say reel test and start by turning reset key . once done it will stop at the part of the reel strip were the strips are stuck together . if this didn't happen mark the reels at the pay line and use this as your starting point to install your strips

Before doing that and cutting notches in perfectly good strips, I would want to find out why it's wrong. Maybe the basket was installed 180 out or something. We need more info on the history of the machine/reels to find out what is going on. If any of the reels are marked ST on them somewhere, they are from a slant top. I'm not sure where they are marked, I just recall reading about it in another thread where things were not lining up correctly and it was the wrong reels.

The slot pays out when nothing seems to be lined up for a win.  The reel strips are on each reel where the bumps are for the reel strip notch.  Could you please explain how to get to the reel strip test, all I every see are numbers when pushing the reset button or turning the reset ket.  If I can perform the reel strip test I can see if the reels are not alligned properly with the reel strips.

See if this works. Press the self test button until you get 5 in the coins played (about 10 presses or so). Then turn the reset key 4 times. On the fourth turn of the reset key the reels should spin and stop with the 'join' part of the strips on the center payline.

Still need to know if you have used these reels with other games on this machine. If they are 'new' to this machine, then it may be a wrong reel or the basket is installed wrong. The test above will help a lot.

The reel test would not work on the 731 chip so I used a 1271 chip.  All 3 of the reels stoped well above the center payout line.  I replaced all of the reels and tried again.  This time 2 and 3 were dead on but 1 was still 2 inches high.  To save some time I just realigned the #1 reel strip and the machine now works fine.  Thanks for the help I never knew that the reels were different I thought they were all the same.  Where did you get the information on how to do that test I have read PSR's before but did not get any specific info like that?   :3- :3- :3-

The PSR for SP chips like the 1271 go into more detail (although a bit cryptic). When on the <5> setting, the first turn of the rest key lets you set the stop for the first reel by pressing the spin button. Then you can set the next two (turn reset key for each). The forth turn of the reset key makes it go to the stops you selected. By just turning the reset key 4 times, it defauts to the '0' spot.

So it sounds like you have a bunch of slant top reels. They should be marked ST on them somwhere. In any case, glad you got it working.

Reel-Strip Test <5>

Allows the operator to view the upper and lower virtual limits for all the reels by inputting the physical stops.  Turn the jackpot reset key to enter the reel-strip test.  To operate the reel-strip test, the physical stops for all the reels must be entered.  To input and increment the physical stop, press the Spin Reels button.  Winner Paid window = physical stop.  Credits window = reel number.  To select the next reel, turn the jackpot reset key.  After selecting the physical stop for the last reel, turn the jackpot reset key to spin the reels to the entered physical stops.  Winner Paid window = lower virtual limit.  Credits window = upper virtual limit.  The virtual limits alternate with the reel number.  To view the next reel, press the Spin Reels button.

So Poppo, on the S+. if you want to use slant top reels in an upright, you just have to re-align the strips, right?

I 'think' that is all you can do. I've never seen a slant top reel, so I don't know if the basket can be moved to another position. One would think they would have made the basket with two sets of pin notches, so they could be used in either machine. But that would have been too easy.  :30-

On the Bally's they have 2 sets of notches on the strips, one for ST and one for Up right.

With the 731 .. go to 4 .. press spin reel button .. top award lines up on the payline.

It has been awhile but on the side of the basket there should be an "U" for upright and "S" for slant top. It does not matter how the basket is placed on reel it will align itself correctly.

Yeah, I forgot the optic slots are part of the basket. That would prevent one basket from being able to be used on either machine just by repositioning it. Now if the slot portion was movable, or the optics themselves, then it could be done.

The S2000 backlit reels allow you to loosen a screw and move the lights and the reels act accordingly.
